Shame on you.
My mother was treated very poorly and unkindly by Mr. Smartnick, hardly worthy of the title doctor. The way he spoke to and treated her was unprofessional and disrespectful. His lack of kindness and care for his patients is the worst I’ve ever heard and, if asked, I would strongly caution any patient seeking psychiatric care to consider most any other practitioner. Shame on you and your condescending manner, Mr. Smartnick.

He prescribed over the safe dose of medication.
Dr. Smartnick spent very little time with me during each visit. In my first scheduled visit, with no previous medical records provided, I was in and out in under 10 minutes for an ADHD and anxiety/depression diagnosis, which should have been a much more involved process. After the first round of medication wasn't helping, he upped dosages without much prompting, and by the time I swapped doctors I was at double the MAXIMUM safe dosage of my antidepressants. I'm very lucky to not have overdosed and caused myself liver failure due to his negligence and my trusting his judgement. Do not go to this doctor. I read these reviews and thought they were exaggerating or from people who had it out for him for some reason, but... Clearly that is not the case. I regret ever going into his care.

Negative rating - #1 is too high
Advised my son to stop meds on 6/9, disputed allergic reaction to medications - just told to take over the counter allergy and disputed allergic reaction. ER visit for swollen tongue and told my son to stop all meds till 6/27 appt which is a big issue with increased:unmediated symptoms. Baffled at how you could tell a formerly pink slipped 18 y old to not take any medications. My son says “he does rush appointments.” If you call office, they tell you that this doctor has no VM and has 72 hrs to reply.

Nope. Not going back there.
Obviously I chose Dr Smartnick because of his last name. He didn’t really seem interested in anything I had to say. He changed my anti-depressant medication and after about a month I was crashing. Crying all the time. I called his office and told them what was happening and asked if there was another medication I could try. They said I’d have to make an appointment for that. Okay. There were no openings for 2 weeks. I could’ve been dead by then. A caring doctor would make time for a patient who is crashing mentally. How long does a Zoom appointment take? He could’ve helped me in 15 minutes

Below Average Care
It's like the guy is "playing" psychiatrist. Very laughable for someone who doesn't have serious issues, but I can see how it could be very detrimental to those who do. The ONLY insight he shared was "I noticed you laughed. Sometimes when people are uncomfortable they laugh." It was absolutely ridiculous and not the level of care one would expect from a Dr with a degree from an Ivy League school. Yeah, I laughed my way out of his office. Go ANYWHERE ELSE. There are so many good psychiatrists and this guy isn't one of them.

My wife got stuck going to this Dr. No one else was available. He only saw her a few times. Visits lasted minutes. One visit he asked her what her issues were. When my wife tried to answer and said "My parents and how I think they.." He cut her off and finished her sentence for her nastily blurting out "because your parents don't love you?" She was actually going to say that she was worried about how her parents felt about her life decisions. Never once did she think her parents didn't love her until this monster put the idea into her head. There is no reason whatsoever that a Psychiatrist would tell a young suicidal woman that her parents don't love her other than to be intentionally cruel. Nothing productive whatsoever could ever come out of that statement. John M. in Seville is 100% correct. This Man has caused more harm than good. My wife was so traumatized by what he said to her that I haven't been able to get her seek help since. Protect your wives and protect your daughters.

Terrible Dr. Very bad experience. And I must comment on all the fake 5*s where he refers to ppl who call him out for bad psych care as babies and drug addicts!!! Wow. Just wow! Pffff. Its so obvious its just him trying to save face. He acts like an addict himself! And spelling psychiatrist incorrectly in order to make a fake review appear legit, now that's just sad. This guy isn't fooling anybody. And Dr. Gary doesn't exist. The only Dr. Gary there is at akron gen is a female med student or internist or something , which adds an extra level of creepy to the narrative. And it seems like someone drunk wrote that review. No way if this guy is helping anyone's wife.

I saw Dr. Smartnick for about 5 months, and it was the most horrible experience I have ever had with ANY doctor. The first appointment lasted about 15 minutes, I was sent home with a prescription with no mention of what kind of side effects to expect, or any plan of action if I did not do well with what he prescribed. My next 3-4 appointments lasted all of 5 minutes, and felt like a new patient appointment every single time. I never got more than a few words out, all of my concerns were disregarded, and when I experienced side effects for longer than 2-3 weeks with a new medication, he just upped the dose and told me they would go away eventually. Completely irresponsible way to handle a patient that is being prescribed any kind of psychiatric medication. I ended up coming to my new doctor in even worse shape than I was when I started seeing Smartnick in the first place.

I was told my review was removed too!!! Talks mostly himself! Then gets up and opens his door when he's finished! Never remembers who you are or what he's done for you unless he looks at his notes! Refuses to write notes for work or school stating "you're running away from your problem". Just look at the ratings! A useless Dr. Who doesn't seem to care! Run! Run! Run!

He's a good psychaitrist, the one star reviews sound like they are coming from addicts who were refused medication. Not one mention of why they are mad, just that they are mad. He worked with me just fine, he is a little socially awkward, and does sometimes interrupt, but it's never rude.

I have seen Dr Smartnick for over 4.5 years. He has helped me deal with some of the most difficult experiences of my life such as post traumatic stress related to domestic violence. He takes time to listen to me and conceptualizes things in a way that help me understand my feelings and how to cope. He also works with my other physicians and coordinates care wonderfully. I have found him to be extremely kind and caring and his staff as well.

This doctor should have his license taken away. He is a liar, reckless, and has probably caused more harm then good. Please check out any business this sorry individual works for because if they would hire him I would assume there standards are as low as his.

I was sent to Dr. Smartnick by my primary care 5 years ago and having never had a psychiatrist, I didn't realize how poorly I was being treated for my depression/anxiety. -does not spend time with patients -does not listen at all - he is constantly talking over you -never knows what you are on (that he prescribed) and messes up the dosages that he gave you -discouraged me from seeking counseling -After being hospitalized anxiety he refused my request for a doctor transfer w/in his practice

This individual is one of the most arrogant people I've met in my 49 years. Unfortunately for society, he's in a field where recommendations don't apply and he doesn't have to follow patient or family wishes, he can do what he desires (charge insurance). He has taken the power that we've given him through the law and abused it to a level I've never encountered. This man should not be allowed to practice medicine in the United States. There will be something done about this incompetent doctor
