Ms review
Dr degenhardt is generally rude & dismissive toward patient's issues when they bring them up during appointment often making you feel ignorant of your ms. She is reluctant to follow through with treatments, procedures needed for basic ongoing follow up. Although she is listed as an ms specialist run to another facility with an ms clinic if you have ms as I have been trying to leave this facility for years to find a better provider with actual tact & knowledge related to ms but am repeatedly told not by other practices because she is supposedly a 'specialist in ms'. I've also read her journal publications which I would highly suggest reading if you do currently see her as a provider as, although she may tell you that you wouldn't be able to understand the information like she did me.

Incompetent/condescending/misdiagnosed
Husband went to her 3 years. He was told his lesions were normal, he didn’t have MS. He has all symptoms of it. He went back this year, now she says he has it but there’s no change in his lesions on this MRI. Talks to him like he’s stupid. Took over a month to get meds due to her mess up and her office staff. He asks questions thru portal she writes back in all caps “take your medicine” but he was asking about his results of an MRI and that was her answer. I have spent countless hours on the phone making sure they did their job and they haven’t several times. We are switching him to a new Dr now that we finally got his meds. My friend had horror stories also about her giving her meds for MS when she didn’t even have MS. It nearly ruined her career and life. She was in the same shape as a stroke victim. Degenhardt just kept upping her meds and making her worse instead of finding the real issue, which was the meds. She’s terrible! I wouldn’t waste your time!

Always in a rush
Was referred by Dartmouth Hitchcock Research Hospital. By MS specialist Dr Smith. Saw her in 2019. Says my MS is very complicated. Well duh, each person is different. My vision is fine but when the MS flares up I lose vision in both of my eyes, balance issues, confusion and sometimes memory loss. I know my body better than any Dr tells me. I have tried 5 different medications and I am not the only one who had a bad reaction to IVIG infusions. Which destroyed my bladder. My gut feeling is telling me to not to trust a Dr who is not living in my body. And never had MS. I really really don't want to see her since she is passing me off to another MS neurologist. She says my medical conditions are complex.

Dismissive, hurried, impersonal & insulting to my intelligence. Refused to listen to my concerns. Made me feel humiliated by brushing off my questions. This is a new Neuro for me, my long-time doc recently retired. I understand my disease of 30+ years and have never been made to feel so reproved. Needless to say: Disappointed

I noticed some of the reviews of this neurologist portrayed her in a negative way. I was seeing her when I lived in Augusta between 7/2012 and 1/2013. She began working at Pen Bay neurology in 2011. Hospital politics that prevent doctors from acting autonomously can erode morale, and this may have been what has happened with this neurologist. Doctors who are free to act autonomously have higher morale than doctors whose autonomy is constrained by hospital policies. I'd recommend her to anyone.
