He performs all aspects of adult cardiac surgery with a particular interest in minimally invasive approaches to heart valve repairs. His other area of focus involves caring for patients with complex thoracic aortic disease such as aneurysms and dissections. He received additional aortic surgical training in both traditional and less invasive endovascular and hybrid approaches to treat aortic pathology. Dr. MacHannaford is also a member of the Heart Transplantation team and is trained in the implantation of mechanical circulatory devices for patients with end stage heart failure.

Dr. Ankit Verma is a board-certified Cardiothoracic Surgeon with a robust educational background and extensive training. Dr. Verma completed his fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. This advanced training has equipped him with the skills and knowledge required to address a wide range of complex cardiovascular and thoracic conditions. Dr. Verma is additionally board-certified in general surgery having completed his residency in General Surgery at Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He completed his medical education at the University of Missouri - Kansas City, where he completed a rigorous six-year B.A./M.D. program from 2010 to 2016. This accelerated program provided him with a solid foundation in both the basic sciences and clinical practice, setting the stage for his future specialization.
