Dr. Kelechi Akuma, M.D. is a board-certified Vascular and Endovascular Surgeon. He completed his General Surgery residency at Mount Sinai Icahn School of Medicine at Beth Israel, New York. His clinical experience during residency training inspired him to pursue Vascular Surgery. He went on to complete his Vascular Surgery fellowship at North Shore-LIJ in New York where he focused on minimally invasive and open surgical treatment of arterial, venous, and lymphatic diseases. From 2018 to 2022, Dr. Akuma was employed as Vascular Surgeon and Assistant Professor of Surgery at Northwell Health in New York. In 2022, Dr. Akuma joined the HCA Florida Heart and Vascular Center in Margate, Florida. His practice focuses on non-operative, endovascular, and open management of aortic aneurysms, carotid disease, peripheral artery disease, hemodialysis access, superficial venous insufficiency, and deep venous pathology. He has been in practice in South Florida since 2009. He joined Sports Medicine Associates of South Florida after completing his Hand, Wrist and Microvascular Surgery fellowship at the University of Southern California. At USC, he worked under an expert team of physicians and surgeons directly responsible for the care and treatment of the USC Trojans athletic teams. Dr. Shenassa grew up in Long Island, New York and attended New York University for his undergraduate studies. After NYU, Dr, Shenassa studied medicine in Haifa, Israel at the Technion Institute of Technology Faculty of Medicine. He returned to New York to complete his surgical residency training at North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System, an affiliate of the NYU/ Albert Einstein Schools of Medicine. Dr. Shenassa is also the Chairman of the Board at HCA Woodmont Hospital in Tamarac, FL.
