Dr Ponce is a board-certified ophthalmologist who grew up in Guatemala and graduated from Francisco Marroquin University in Guatemala where he obtained his Bachelor in Science and MD degree. His interest in retina started when he did his residency in ophthalmology at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary where he was involved in retinal imaging studies and lutein measurement. Dr Fabunmi completed medical school at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, TN, where he was inducted into the Gold Humanism Society and Alpha Omega Alpha. During his tenure Dr Fabunmi completed a clerkship at The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, where he authored a review article and a workshop about key topics in glaucoma. Dr Gamero received his medical degree from Cayetano Heredia University in Peru, South America in 1981. He came to the United States in 1986 to obtain multiple sub-specialty training at the University of Texas and Duke University. Dr Gamero later received a second residency in ophthalmology at the Catholic Medical Center in New York City. He went on to complete an 18 month fellowship in the diagnosis and treatment of glaucoma at the University of Louisville, where he stayed as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology for five years. Dr Gamero then moved to Florida serving as Assistant Professor and Director of the Glaucoma Service, Department of Ophthalmology, University of Florida College of Medicine, Jacksonville, before joining St.
