Biography: Hello and welcome to therapy! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 16 years of professional work experience. I have certifications in both New York and Florida states, and can treat individuals from either geographical area. That being said, being a social worker has afforded me to work with a variety of people on a wide range of issues. I am also educated with a Master's Degree at Columbia University and have studied the impact of family and environmental stressors on the brain. I can work with those who are trying to understand and learn more about why they are experiencing stress, anxiety, or depressive symptoms. The places where we reside, the people whom we interact with whether loved ones at home, or in with workplace, and how we feel about ourselves internally can all play a role in our emotional health. I can attest to witnessing individuals gaining access to hope and moving toward changes in their lives through the therapeutic process once they have gained a sense of control through the use of specific tools or even through having an objective person to process their feelings. Depending on your needs, we can work to understand your thoughts and the impact on behaviors you wish to address, we can learn about your somatic experience (body/mind connection), and we work together to explore setting achievable goals. While I have treated those with chronic or severe emotional health-related issues, my work at Better Help best serves those who are coping with recent stressors as I am only available 2 days of the week, Tuesdays and Thursdays for client sessions. I prefer working with clients who will be able to do scheduled text, phone, or video sessions as this is the best way for me to connect during the work week. I am available initially for texting with the idea of setting a schedule for treatment as therapy works best with structured time where we can delve into matters. I will try my best to respond to texts in between the sessions within 24-48 hours as your questions or concerns are important to me. If you think we may be a good fit, reach out and we can set some time aside to talk. I look forward to meeting you as you explore the therapeutic journey. Alexandra

Biography: Hi! My name is Melanie. I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor. I received my Bachelor's Degree in Neuroscience at University of Delaware and my Master's Degree in Mental Health Counseling at SUNY College at Old Westbury. I have experience with adults, teenagers, children, Veterans, substance users, and the developmentally disabled. I also have a lot of experience with relationship counseling as it is a prevalent factor among most populations. I conduct group and individual therapy in both inpatient and outpatient settings. In my undergraduate studies, I conducted extensive research with PTSD in rats. This was an eye-opening experience as it taught me about the human stress reaction and how humans with trauma function differently from humans without trauma due to lacking the ability to extinguish fear. I use this in my practice as I currently work in an inpatient psychiatric setting with patients who have extreme trauma history. My graduate studies focused on the psychodynamic approach to counseling in which I learned about human development, family context, relationships, and transference/countertransference. I utilize this approach when working with clients as it helps me to understand the individuality if my clients based on their personal development. I use a myriad of theoretical approaches in my practice as I believe that all client's circumstances and personalities are different and treatment should be personalized. I focus on motivational interviewing in my practice as it is goal oriented and encourages a client toward change-talk and change-action. I use person-centered therapy once the client presents as motivated, but needs support and encouragement. I am here to listen without judgement and guide you through your own transitional journey. I am a firm believer of solution focused therapy in which a client is encouraged to focus on the present and future. I love to utilize CBT for a motivated client in order to deconstruct their thoughts/feelings/behaviors and identify the interrelationship between these thoughts/feelings/behaviors. One way to work on this is by teaching about faulty thinking errors/distortions and offering some positive coping skills to restructure thinking. This approach is best for clients who are willing to take their counseling further by completing homework, thought logs, charts, etc. Lastly, I emphasize the need for self-care in my clients. I am personable and friendly in my practice and I owe this to having balance in my life. When I am not counseling, I practice yoga, ride my bike, see my friends or family, play with my dog, go outside, or go shopping. I encourage all clients to utilize self-care and do what makes them feel happy and free.

Care Philosophy: Talkspace partners with care providers who find satisfaction in providing therapy in a way that prioritizes the clients convenience and preferences. Because all therapy takes place virtually, through messaging, live virtual sessions, or both, providers can communicate more frequently and casually in comparison to traditional face-to-face therapy. Talkspace treatment methods are supported by scientific research and are committed to non-judgmental care that is inclusive and respectful of cultural and other identities. Talkspace patients are matched with the best provider for them based on their needs and availability during the registration process. Once matched with a provider, patients may change at any time, and may contact support to request a specific provider. *The above is attributed to Talkspace and not the provider.*
