He was awarded a grant in 2016 from the Wings for Life spinal cord research foundation to study the effects of spinal cord stimulation and stem cell transplantation on recovery after spinal cord injury. He has ongoing research affiliations with Dr. Phil Horner's lab studying neuroregeneration and stem cell therapy for neurological injury as well as with Dimitry Sayenko's lab studying spinal cord stimulation to restore function after spinal cord injury.

Care Philosophy: Dr. Huang is a proponent of designing minimally invasive surgical treatment plans based on the patient's primary symptoms rather than the radiological imaging, which often shows a multitude of abnormalities, many of which may be unrelated to the patient's symptoms. He then attended Baylor College of Medicine in Houston where he graduated with high honors.Following graduation, he completed an internship in surgery and a neurosurgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine.He served as chief resident at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, Baylor St. Luke's Hospital, and Ben Taub General Hospital. Biography: Dr. Taylor L. Gist is a board certified neurosurgeon licensed in the state of Texas. He is a native Texan who was born in Irving and raised in Southlake, a suburb of the Dallas/Ft. Worth metro-plex.Dr. Gist attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas on an academic scholarship where he was selected into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. He then completed his medical school training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School where he was selected into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha honor medical society.Dr. Gist completed neurosurgery residency at Houston Methodist Hospital where he was trained extensively over seven years in complex brain and spine operations. This training was done in part by the neurosurgeons comprising the Neurosurgical Group of Texas who asked Dr. Gist to join their practice after completion of his residency. He performed his surgical training at Indiana University Medical Center before completing his anesthesia residency at Baylor College of Medicine. Additional specialty fellowships in spine care and pain management were completed at Texas Tech University Medical Center and Baylor College of Medicine. He is board certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology with additional subspecialty certification in Pain Management, and is board certified by the American Board of Pain Medicine.After training with leading international neurosurgeons, orthopedists and neurologists, he became a clinical professor at Baylor College of Medicine. While there, he established and was the director of the Interventional Spine Care Fellowship Program. In addition to current clinical duties, he continues to teach in the combined Baylor and University of Texas Spinal Surgery Fellowship Program.
