Biography: Dr. Noga Harizman, MD is a Professor of Ophthalmology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center specializing in glaucoma and cornea. Dr. Harizman is a leader in minimally invasive glaucoma surgery techniques, both as a teacher and practitioner. Prior to joining Columbia, Dr. Harizman was the Director of Glaucoma services at the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai, and served as an attending physician and preceptor for resident glaucoma clinics. She is deeply involved in creating the glaucoma surgical curriculum and supervising resident and laser surgical cases. In Columbia University Irving Medical Center, she is the Glaucoma Fellowship program director since 2021. She is also Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology at Harlem Hospital-NYC HHC, where the Columbia Ophthalmology residents rotate twice a year throughout their training. For her outstanding educational leadership, she received the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary Teaching Award in 2011, and he Philip Knapp Memorial Residents Teaching Award at Columbia University Irving Medical Center in 2021. A native New Yorker born to Israeli parents, Dr. Harizman grew up in and was schooled and medically trained in Israel. She is a graduate of Tel Aviv University Medical School. Immediately upon graduating from ophthalmology residency, she began teaching and tutoring medical students on ocular anatomy and disease as a Clinical Instructor in Ophthalmology, at the Sackler Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University. She then completed sequential fellowships in glaucoma and cornea at The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, where she joined the full-time faculty in 2008. In addition to her accolades as a distinguished physician-educator with international experience and expertise, Dr. Harizman is known for being an effective and caring mentor for medical students, residents and fellows. She has maintained the highest professional and ethical standards and, enjoys providing care for her new and long-term patients, all while managing a full family life.

Biography: Donald J. D'Amico, MD, Professor and Chair of the Israel Englander Department of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medical College and Ophthalmologist-in-Chief at the New York Presbyterian Hospital, is an internationally recognized leader in the field of vitreoretinal surgery. He assumed the Chair at Weill Cornell in 2006 after his longstanding positions at Harvard Medical School as Professor of Ophthalmology, and as Associate Chief of Ophthalmology and Director of the Diabetic Unit at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.A graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Illinois College of Medicine, he completed his residency at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He completed his fellowship in vitreoretinal diseases at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami, followed by selection as Chief Resident in Ophthalmology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary prior to joining the Harvard faculty.Dr. D'Amico has published over 175 articles on vitreoretinal diseases and has co-edited two books covering comprehensive retinal themes. He has participated as a principal investigator or co-investigator in many clinical trials and laboratory investigations. His major interests include: vitreoretinal surgery; diabetic retinopathy; macular degeneration; experimental lasers and other technologies for the surgical treatment of vitreoretinal disorders such as retinal detachment, macular holes and epiretinal membranes; and endophthalmitis and intravitreal drug therapy. As attending physician specializing in the care of patients with vitreoretinal disorders at the Israel Englander Department of Ophthalmology, Dr. D'Amico also provides direct instruction of medical students, ophthalmology residents, and retina fellows. In this role he has twice received the Teacher of the Year Award given by the residents of the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary.Dr. D'Amico is a distinguished national and international lecturer and is the recipient of many honors, including the Honor Award and the Senior Achievement Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He serves on the board of four major journals, and is highly active in professional societies. He is a past President of the Retina Society, and is the immediate past President of the prestigious international retinal organization Club Jules Gonin.Donald J. Biography: Sonali D. Talsania, MD is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Columbia University Medical Center and the NewYork-Presbyterian Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital. She is a board-certified ophthalmologist who completed fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus. She specializes in the ophthalmologic care of children and the surgical treatment of strabismus (eye misalignment) in both children and adults. She conducts general pediatric ophthalmologic exams and provides surgical and medical care for a variety of pediatric ophthalmologic conditions, including blocked tear ducts, amblyopia, childhood cataracts, dermoid cyst removal, and eyelid droop repair. She graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College with a degree in Biology (focus: Neurobiology) and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She received her medical degree from Harvard Medical School and completed an internship at Cambridge Health Alliance, a Harvard training hospital. She then did her residency at Boston Medical Center, affiliated with Boston University. During residency, she was recognized for her work teaching medical students and received an award for her research in orbital cellulitis in children. She completed a fellowship in pediatric ophthalmology and strabismus at the Duke Eye Center and practiced for several years in South Florida before joining Columbia.Dr. Talsania is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, as well as the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus. She has published in the field of pediatric ophthalmology on the topics of strabismus following glaucoma drainage device implantation and pediatric corneal cross-linking for keratoconus. She was selected as the Jonas Scholar for her work in pediatric ophthalmology at Columbia. She focuses on providing thoughtful care to patients of all ages, and is also dedicated to teaching residents, for which she was honored with the John Wheeler Martin Memorial Teaching Award.
