Biography: Priscilla Escalona Villasmil, M.D., is a board-certified endocrinologist at Baptist Health and speaks fluent English and Spanish. Prior to joining Baptist Health in 2023, Dr. Escalona worked as an endocrinologist for seven years at Prisma Health in Greenville, SC. She also served as an assistant professor and course director for endocrinology at the University of South Carolina School of Medicine, Greenville. As part of her endocrinology practice, Dr. Escalona treats patients with diabetes, thyroid conditions, metabolic disorders, pituitary diseases and more. She has a special interest in advanced diabetes technology. Dr. Escalona speaks regularly at local and regional meetings, including discussing diabetes-related complications at health and wellness events. Dr. Escalona received her medical degree from Universidad Centro-Occidental Lisandro Alvarado in Venezuela and graduated with honors. She completed her internal medicine residency at Carney Hospital, a Tufts University School of Medicine affiliate and earned a Best Teaching Resident award. She then continued her medical training by completing an endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism fellowship at Tufts Medical Center, Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. Biography: Mariana De Michele, M.D., is a board-certified primary care physician at Baptist Health. Dr. De Michele specializes in womens health, weight management and preventative medicine, including diabetes prevention. She is fluent in Spanish, English and Italian. Dr. De Michele is also a clinical faculty at Baptist Health for the upcoming internal medicine residency program. Prior to joining Baptist Health in 2022, Dr. De Michele worked as a clinical assistant professor of internal medicine for Michigan Medicine, the academic medical center of the University of Michigan. She was also a clinical assistant professor at Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and the director of Cleveland Clinics public walk-in clinic. Dr. De Micheles research includes diabetes prevention, pre-diabetes, physician education and the improvement of healthcare access. Her work is published in the Journal of General Internal Medicine and the Journal of Medical Internet Research. She is also a member of the American College of Physicians Dr. De Michele received several awards from the University of Michigan and Cleveland Clinic Foundation, including the Caring with Excellence Award and the Steven E. Gradwohl Excellence in Continuity General Medicine Teaching Award, which she won twice. She also received three times the Making a Difference Award, a recognition given by patients. Dr. De Michele believes in building long-term relationships with patients, serving each with time, dedication and commitment. Seeing herself as the quarterback of patients medical care, she treats patients like family using compassionate evidence-based care and holistic treatments. When she is not treating patients or instructing new doctors, Dr. De Michele enjoys running, gardening, traveling and spending time with family.
