Roessler Memorial research scholarship, and the Department of Neurology outstanding performance award.During Dr. Nelson's clinical rotations, he became fascinated with the function and pathology of the nervous system, which drove his decision to pursue a residency in Neurology. After receiving his medical degree, Dr. Nelson did a preliminary medicine intern year at the University of Utah before moving to Minnesota for his Neurology residency at one of the most distinguished and respected programs in the world, Mayo Clinic. While learning the complexities of the diagnosis and management of disorders of the nervous system, Dr. Nelson became particularly interested in the painful manifestations of neurologic dysfunction, and turned this desire into a pursuance of a subspecialty in Pain Medicine.He went on to do fellowship training in Pain Medicine at one of the American Pain Society's clinic centers of excellence, the University of California - Davis Pain Center. In fellowship, Dr. Nelson was instructed in a multi-disciplinary approach to the management of chronic pain conditions. He became skilled in the full spectrum of interventional techniques, including fluoroscopically-guided procedures, ultrasound-guided procedures, and advanced techniques of spinal cord and peripheral nerve stimulation.Dr. Nelson is board certified in Neurology and Pain Management. He will be seeing patients with any type of chronic pain, but has particular clinical interest in the treatment of headaches and neuropathic pain conditions.
