Care Philosophy: Dr. Smebak is a primary care physician who cares for entire families in all stages of life. She has particular experience in womens health, including pregnancy care and reproductive planning. Dr. Smebak values long-term relationships with patients and their families, and she works to ensure treatment plans are in line with patients goals and priorities. Care Philosophy: Dr. Kalava is an internal medicine and geriatrics physician with special interests in dementia, fall prevention, polypharmacy, adult primary care, preventive medicine and community geriatric care. Biography: I chose to become a doctor and specialize in internal medicine because I enjoy the investigative nature of the specialty and figuring out the best ways to help my patients. I also appreciate the opportunity it provides to develop long-term relationships with my patients. I enjoy seeing people from many different cultures and helping them navigate the health system. My ability to speak Spanish is a comfort to many of my patients who appreciate being able to communicate in their native language. I have special interests in travel medicine and caring for those with diabetes.

Care Philosophy: Dr. Easley received training in the treatment and management of both acute and chronic adult diseases. He enjoys building long-term relationships with patients and working with individuals to meet their short- and long-term health goals. His interests are chronic disease management, medicine in the aging population, and preoperative medical assessments prior to surgery. He believes the best skill a physician can have is the ability to listen.

Care Philosophy: I am a member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS) and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). I completed a fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery and Joint Replacement at Virginia Tech/Carilion Clinic. My training focused on anterior hip replacements, knee replacements, and complex hip and knee revision surgery.

Care Philosophy: Kurt Duncan, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon who specializes in management of various conditions that affect the neck and low back. Diagnostic tools such as X-rays and advanced imaging (MRI, CT scan), EMG, and diagnostic/therapeutic injections are sometimes used to help make a diagnosis. In many cases some of these studies have already been done before your first appointment. Once a diagnosis is made, Dr. Duncan believes that educating his patients about their condition and what outcomes they should expect is paramount. Except in urgent situations, non-surgical treatments usually precedes surgical treatment. If surgery is indicated, Dr. Duncan discusses available surgical options with his patients so that they can make an informed decision about their course of treatment. He believes that this type of patient-doctor relationship allows each unique patient to come to a decision that best matches their goals of treatment and best fits their overall health status.
