Biography: Dr. Tariq Shah obtained his basic medical degree from University of Calcutta at RG Kar Medical College with honors. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Sisters of Charity Hospital, SUNY at Buffalo in New York. He was awarded the Austin Flint House Staff Award for best resident and was elected chief resident in his third year of residency. Dr. Shah completed his nephrology fellowship at University of California, Los Angeles, (UCLA) and then completed an additional American Society of Transplantation (AST) certified fellowship in kidney and pancreas transplantation UCLA. He stayed on faculty there before joining transplant Nephrology practice at St. Vincent Medical Center (SVMC) in Los Angeles where he became the primary transplant physician and medical director the of Kidney and Pancreas transplant program. During his time at SVMC's transplant program, the transplant outcome metrics improved considerably, making it a premier transplant program in California. Dr Shah is board certified in Nephrology and AST certified in Kidney and pancreas transplantation. Dr. Shah led a state of the art clinical and transplant research program at SVMC and the National Institute of Transplantation. His research interests are diverse and remains actively involved with basic and clinical research exploring innovative methods of increasing transplant access to all patients, increasing transplant rates, using state of the art immunomodulation and surveillance for improving overall patient and graft survival. He has published extensively in the field of transplant medicine and nephrology in peer reviewed journals. He has authored several original papers and book chapter that have positively impacted transplant medicine practice. He remains an active member of American Society of Transplantation (AST) and American Society of Nephrology (ASN) and has made numerous presentations and delivered lectures. Dr. Shah has received the best teacher award several times among other awards in the field of Nephrology and Transplantation. In his rare leisure moments Dr Shah enjoys listening to music, skiing and golfing.
