Care Philosophy: My philosophy towards my practice of surgery is very simple-treat others as I would want to be treated. In evaluating a patient my first priority is deciding whether an operation is necessary. If surgery is needed, I explain the procedure and recovery in straight forward terms. I always encourage questions; I feel the more someone understands about their healthcare, the better prepared they are for surgery and the recovery. Many procedures such as hernia repair, thyroid/parathyroid surgery, breast surgery and gallbladder surgery can now be preformed as an outpatient. Minimally invasive surgery is frequently an option and is preferred as long as it is just as safe as the more traditional surgical procedures. I strive for a quick recovery making my patients as comfortable as possible. No one wants to have surgery, but if it becomes necessary then care should be given as much empathy, safety and comfort as possible.

Biography: Dr. Alejandro Garcia is a board-certified general surgeon and surgical intensivist with over thirteen years of experience. Born and raised in San Antonio, Texas, and a native Spanish speaker, he is a proud life member of Texas Exes. After graduating from The University of Texas at Austin, he earned his medical degree from Ponce School of Medicine in Puerto Rico in 2006, where he demonstrated his leadership skills by serving as class president throughout all four years. Dr. Garcia completed his general surgery training at the University of Florida in Jacksonville and pursued a fellowship in surgical critical care at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He began his career in Ocala, Florida, where he played a pivotal role in transforming a community hospital into a tertiary referral center, launching a general surgery residency program, and establishing a Level 1 trauma center. As the associate trauma medical director, he practiced a wide range of acute care surgery, including elective and emergency procedures, trauma, and surgical critical care, all while developing a passion for complex surgical cases.Dr. Garcia returned to Texas during a challenging time; when his sister was diagnosed with debilitating cancer, he sought opportunities in central Texas. He was recruited to St. David's South Austin Medical Center, where he continued to provide comprehensive elective and acute care surgery. At St. David's, he again helped establish a general surgery residency program and served as faculty for both the St. David's Healthcare General Surgery Residency and Texas A&M medical students. As his career progressed and in pursuit of his passion, he chose to focus exclusively on general surgical practice, emphasizing patient education and the complex physiology of surgical patients. His extensive experience enables him to address surgical challenges from a uniquely personal perspective while prioritizing patient care. Dr. Garcia is married to his wife, Elaine, and they have three wonderful children: Gaby, Daniel, and Emma. In his free time, he enjoys family gatherings, often visiting his parents and sister in San Antonio, and retreating to his ranch in Boerne. He finds relaxation in hunting, fly fishing, and watching football. Dr. Alejandro Garcia exemplifies a compassionate and skilled surgeon who prioritizes patient care and family values.
