Biography: I am a board-certified medical oncologist with more than 20 years of experience, much of it helping patients from Rowan County and neighboring areas. \n During my career, I've helped my patients using bone marrow biopsies and chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted treatments to identify and fight more than a dozen types of cancer. The list includes cancers of the lung, blood, skin, colon, liver, cervix, kidney, bladder and pancreas, as well as Hodgkin's lymphoma and multiple myeloma. I've treated men with testicular and prostate cancer and women with breast cancer. \n I selected oncology as a medical specialty because it allows me to help those in great need of physical and emotional care. I also believe oncology is the branch of medicine that is most challenging and subject to rapid change and innovation. \n I take time to listen to my patients and to connect with them emotionally. \n Before joining Novant Health and relocating to the Novant Health Cancer Institute - Rowan in 2020, I helped to establish Carolina Oncology Associates in Rowan County. I have served on the board of a local hospice organization and served as vice president and president of internal medicine at Rowan Regional Medical Center before it was acquired by Novant Health in 2008. \n In my spare time, I enjoy hiking and traveling with my family and reading.

Biography: As a child, I had severe respiratory issues. I was frequently surrounded by doctors while I was in and out of hospitals and medical offices. By the time I was 5 years old, I knew I wanted to be just like them. I wanted to dedicate my life to helping people just as my doctors helped me. \n During medical school, I discovered a passion for caring for patients with cancer and rotated between medical oncology and radiation oncology. Because of the intersection of technology, physics and radiobiology, I found myself particularly drawn to radiation oncology and chose that as my career path. \n My primary passion in medicine is in building relationships with my patients. As the medical director and practicing radiation oncologist, I can do just that. I regularly see patients throughout their treatment, which allows me to know them on a personal level. \n I was the first in my family to attend college, so I know that coming into a healthcare facility can be overwhelming - especially when physicians speak in complex medical terms. I aim to treat my patients as I would want someone treating my own family. I speak in terms we can all understand, work to make everyone feel comfortable and always allow for plenty of time to answer all questions. I care deeply about my patients, and I hope that during their cancer journey, I can provide some sense of peace and comfort. I'm there for them every step of the way. \n I am originally from a small town in West Virginia, but I moved to Virginia for college and medical school. I went to rival schools - Virginia Tech (undergraduate) and the University of Virginia (medical school) - but I will always be a Hokie at heart. \n My true loves in life are my husband, Michael, and my two children, Tanner and Natalie. Outside the office, our family enjoys spending time outdoors, visiting national parks, traveling, exercising and playing with Hokie, our golden retriever, and Mila, our Yorkshire terrier.

Biography: I knew I wanted to be a physician since I was a small child. I was fascinated by hospitals and the mechanisms of the human body. Then, when I was in college and still in the process of figuring out the path I wanted to take, my father was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Watching him go through that experience and witnessing the care shown by his physicians guided me in the direction of oncology. Today, as a radiation oncologist, I thoroughly enjoy getting to know my patients and guiding them through this difficult time in their life. \n I approach each treatment with a deep sensitivity to the fact that I am meeting my patients at a very vulnerable time in their lives and aim to offer comfort and calm. I hope to provide them with the knowledge to fully understand their illness and their treatment options. Then, I work to guide them toward the best treatment decision for their own well-being. I care deeply about my patient and always want to get to know them first as a person, beyond their illness. With every patient who walks through my door, my goal is to improve the quality of their life and help them return to their normal lives and routines. \n Born and raised in Pittsburgh, I have lived in Winston-Salem since I first arrived in the city for medical school in 1986. I fell in love with the area and knew it was where I wanted to stay and raise a family. My children have been my main focus and joy over the years. Now that they are grown and no longer living at home, my husband and I enjoy focusing on each other. In my free time, I love hiking, traveling and cooking, particularly Italian food. I also enjoy playing with my cairn terrier and going on long walks.

Biography: My mother, who worked as a nurse, is the main reason I chose medicine. \n Growing up, I witnessed her dedication to patient care and how she made a tangible difference in their lives. Inspired by her example, I initially pursued a career in nursing. However, during a medical humanitarian mission to South America, I was deeply moved to witness physicians addressing complex medical challenges while bringing much-needed care to underserved communities. I decided then to take the leap and pursue medical school. \n That's where I discovered my passion for cardiothoracic surgery - a field that demands precision and relies on seamless teamwork. But it was the opportunity to extend and improve patients' lives through surgical innovation that most drew me to the discipline. Over time, this specialty has become not just my profession - but my calling. \n I enjoy the challenge cardiothoracic surgery presents; it's among the most technically demanding specialties in medicine. \n My areas of interest include minimally invasive surgery; aortic, mitral and tricuspid valve repair; thoracic aortic repair; atrial fibrillation; treating lung and esophageal cancer; coronary artery disease and more. I'm board-certified in general, as well as thoracic and cardiac, surgery. \n My goal is to provide the safest, most effective care possible while ensuring patients feel heard, respected and confident in the care they receive. I strive to treat every patient as I would a family member. That means being transparent, compassionate and committed to safety. \n That commitment is evidenced by my surgical outcomes being ranked among the top 5% of cardiac and thoracic surgeons nationwide. \n I'm a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society (and was an early initiate), Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society, the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, Golden Key International Honour Society, Society of Thoracic Surgeons and others. I'm also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and was named "Teacher of the Year" in 2013 while serving as an instructor in the University of Utah's physician assistant program. \n In addition, I'm a medical board reviewer for the state of North Carolina and serve as a clinical trial investigator, which places me at the forefront of cardiothoracic surgical advancements. \n My wonderful wife and I are proud parents of two amazing daughters. Family is at the heart of everything I do, and I cherish our time together, whether at home or on an adventure. \n I have a deep passion for music and love attending concerts and music festivals. I'm also an avid practitioner of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, which keeps me physically active while also challenging me mentally. It teaches resilience, focus and humility. My hobbies provide balance and help me bring my best self to both my personal and professional roles.
