In fact, I never saw a doctor until I landed at the refugee camp. I still remember I was given a little red vitamin C pill the moment I got my feet on dry land. That was my first encounter to a medical provider. I always feel very fortunate to be here in the United States, as medical care is so readily available everywhere. Having lived and traveled to places with severe shortness of medical care or having no medical care at all, I understand the importance of providing my patients the best care I can give. Tragically, my own sister lost her life at the age of 20 due to the lack of medical care. I was 13 years old at that time and ever since then, I wanted to become a doctor, as I do not ever want any needless loss of life due to the lack of healthcare access.``
