Biography: Dr. Robert Barry Lurate is a board certified Orthopedic Surgeon caring for patients in Pensacola, Florida and the greater Escambia county area. Dr. Lurate received his undergraduate degree in Engineering from Mississippi State University and his medical degree from University of Mississippi School of Medicine. He then went on to complete his internship and residency at Louisiana State University. Dr. Lurate is a United States veteran. He was in the U.S. Navy Reserves assigned to the U.S. Naval Hospital Marine Reserve Center in Shreveport, Louisiana from October 1988 to June 1993. He also served on the United Nations Protection Force during Operation Provide Promise in Zagreb, Croatia. He has earned several Military Awards including the National Defense Medal. Dr. Lurate diagnoses and treats ailments affecting muscles, bones and joints, treating sports injuries, degenerative diseases and infections. He performs joint repair and replacement operations specializing in minimally invasive knee and hip replacements. Care Philosophy: My goal for treating patients is to provide a patient centered experience. I want my patients to take an active role in their care and decision making. I take pride in listening to how the patient is being affected by their ailment. I make sure the patient understands their diagnosis, taking as much time as they need to answer their questions and give them all conservative and surgical options that will fit their needs. It is my goal to use surgery only as a last resort when appropriate. Orthopedic problems affect people differently, depending on their age, medical conditions, occupation, hobbies and lifestyle. There are usually multiple correct treatments depending on those variables, and I strive to help my patients make treatment decisions that are right for their individual needs.
