And, if their cancer journey is coming to an end, my team and I can offer comfort and support at the end of life, too. Ultimately, it is about listening to your patient and their family. \n My wife, our three children and I like to travel to see new places. I am an avid outdoors person and like hiking and biking. Biography: I am a hematologist and oncologist at Novant Health, who has been fascinated with science since childhood. Like most kids, I was curious about the unknown, trying to understand the universe and its mysteries and why we get sick or age. I never expected to fall in love with hematology and oncology. \n Oncology is a challenging field that is also immensely rewarding. Significant progress in the field has given us a lot more tools and avenues to treat patients and this is unbelievably encouraging. \n I enjoy getting to know my patients beyond just their diagnosis - what are their experiences, values and perspectives - and how can I use that information so together, we can develop a care plan that is unique to them. It is about empowering my patients to make the best treatment decisions. \n At the end of the day, I continue to be amazed by the grace and courage that I see in my patients. \n When I am not in the clinic, I enjoy hiking and walking at local parks, traveling, reading historical books and autobiographies, and visiting family.

Biography: I am a board-certified medical oncologist with more than 20 years of experience, much of it helping patients from Rowan County and neighboring areas. \n During my career, I've helped my patients using bone marrow biopsies and chemotherapy, immunotherapy and targeted treatments to identify and fight more than a dozen types of cancer. The list includes cancers of the lung, blood, skin, colon, liver, cervix, kidney, bladder and pancreas, as well as Hodgkin's lymphoma and multiple myeloma. I've treated men with testicular and prostate cancer and women with breast cancer. \n I selected oncology as a medical specialty because it allows me to help those in great need of physical and emotional care. I also believe oncology is the branch of medicine that is most challenging and subject to rapid change and innovation. \n I take time to listen to my patients and to connect with them emotionally. \n Before joining Novant Health and relocating to the Novant Health Cancer Institute - Rowan in 2020, I helped to establish Carolina Oncology Associates in Rowan County. I have served on the board of a local hospice organization and served as vice president and president of internal medicine at Rowan Regional Medical Center before it was acquired by Novant Health in 2008. \n In my spare time, I enjoy hiking and traveling with my family and reading.
