Biography: Dr. David Wan is an Assistant Professor of Medicine and Attending Physician at the New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center in The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology.Dr. Wan earned his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience at Brown University prior to getting his medical degree at NYU where he graduated Alpha Omega Alpha. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at New York Presbyterian-Weill Cornell Medical Center and his Gastroenterology fellowship at NYU.Dr. Wan has a wide variety of interests within gastroenterology and hepatology. One of his main roles will be in the training of gastroenterology fellows in endoscopy/colonoscopy and the inpatient consultation service. He is a member of the American College of Gastroenterology and the American and New York Societies of Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Care Philosophy: Dr. Sharaiha is dedicated to putting her patients first. She has a special interest in the endoscopic treatment of obesity and the diseases of the pancreas and biliary tract, including pancreatitis, fluid collection, sphincter of oddi dysfunction and pancreatic cancer. She is grant funded for trials with malignant biliary obstruction. She sees patients for advanced endoscopic procedures, staging of GI cancers, and treatment or removal of early cancer lesions, surveillance and ablation of pancreatic cysts, and for obesity treatment.

Care Philosophy: Before joining the staff of Weill Cornell Medical Associates, Dr. Smerd worked as a primary care doctor at the Manhattan Veterans Affairs Hospital and at Odyssey House, a therapeutic drug community in Spanish Harlem. She was named chief resident after completing her medical residency at New York University. Dr. Smerd studied medicine at the Sackler School of Medicine/NY State program in Tel Aviv, Israel. She has also lived in Kathmandu and traveled the countryside of Nepal researching Vitamin A deficiency. She earned her bachelor's degree from Vassar College, where she graduated with a major in Women's studies focusing on Anthropology. Though originally from Pittsburgh, Dr. Smerd now lives in Brooklyn with her husband and two children.

Biography: Dr. Asad Mohammad, MD is an Internist who practices in New York, NY. He is 41 years old and has been practicing for 16 years. Dr. Asad Mohammad, MD is affiliated with Mount Sinai Morningside.

Care Philosophy: My approach to patient care is to listen to the patient intently and to commit my full attention to the patient's concerns. Very often the diagnosis becomes clear just from patient input and information. My main areas of interests include hepatitis and biliary problems. Inflammatory bowl disease is growing concern in Brooklyn, and HIV afflictions in our community and its impact on the bowel is a challenge to our speciality.

She completed her internal medicine training at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas. She subsequently finished her gastroenterology training at Columbia Presbyterian, College of Physicians and Surgeons. She did further sub-specialty training with an advanced fellowship specifically in inflammatory bowel diseases under the tutelage of Dr. Ellen Scherl, Director of the Jill Roberts Center for Inflammatory Bowel Diseases.

Biography: Dr. Michelle Cohen is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Weill Cornell Medical College. Her clinical practice encompasses general gastroenterology with a focus on functional gastrointestinal disorders, including Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and women's gastrointestinal health.Dr. Cohen received her undergraduate degree with honors from New York University. She received her medical degree from Albert Einstein College of Medicine where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. Dr.Cohen completed internship and residency training in Internal Medicine at NewYork Presbyterian Hospital-Columbia University Medical Center. She subsequently completed fellowship in Gastroenterology and Hepatology at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Weill Cornell Medical Center.
