Biography: Dr. Grace Sun is the Director of the Ophthalmology Clinical Practice at Weill Cornell Medicine - Lower Manhattan and an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medical College andat New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine.Dr. Sun graduated from Stanford University, with Honors. She later received her M.D. from Weill Medical College of Cornell University, where she was awarded the Edward Norton Prize in Ophthalmology. She completed her ophthalmology residency at the New York-Presbyterian Hospital/ Weill Medical College of Cornell University.Dr. Sun served as president of the New York State Ophthalmological Society (NYSOS) and is President of Women in Ophthalmology (WIO). Dr. Sun has also been named one of "New York Super Doctors Rising Stars" by the New York Times Magazine and as Castle Connolly's Top Doctors in the New York Metro Area.Dr. Sun has a strong interest in global health. She served as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nicaragua from 1999-2001. Biography: Matthew D. Nguyen, MD, is a board certified fellowship trained ophthalmologist with an interest in cataract surgery, corneal transplant surgery including Descemet's membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK) and Descemet's stripping endothelial keratoplasty (DSEK), refractive surgery, anterior segment surgery, and general ophthalmologic practice. He provides comprehensive eye exams for corneal conditions, cataracts, diabetes, dry eye, glaucoma, and macular degeneration. He is an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Weill Cornell Medicine and Assistant Attending Ophthalmologist at New York-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medicine.Dr. Nguyen was born in Virginia and grew up in New York and New Jersey. He graduated from Columbia University in New York with a BA in Neuroscience and Behavior. He remained in New York for his MD at Columbia University's College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he was awarded the Behrens Memorial Prize in Ophthalmology. Biography: Dr. Chelnis is recognized as a 2020 Top Doctor, Best Plastic Surgeon, and Super Doctors Rising Star with a special focus around your most prominent facial feature- your eyes! Dr. Chelnis serves as a cosmetic and functional surgeon and treats patients of all ages, from birth onward. He is trained in oculoplastics and ophthalmology. Her practice interests include corneal diseases and corneal surgery, advanced cataract surgery, laser vision correction, andcomprehensive ophthalmology.Dr. Ciralskyreceived her undergraduate education atBrown University where she graduated Magna cum laude. She also received the Anne Crosby Emery Fellowship upon graduation, an award given to two graduating seniors for scholarly ability and excellence of character. She thenobtained her M.D.from theJohns Hopkins School of Medicine. She continued her training at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School, where she completed her Ophthalmology Residencyand Cornea Fellowship. Biography: Stephen H. Tsang, M.D, Ph.D. is an acclaimed clinical geneticist in the care of individuals with retinal degenerations. He has been culturing stem cells since 1992 and created the first mouse model for a recessive form of retinitis pigmentosa (RP) by applying genome engineering to stem cell technology in 1995. He successfully treated preclinical models ofPde6a, Pde6b, Mfrp, Rho, Cngb1 and autosomal recessive bestrophin retinopathies. He has expertise in designing and testing genome engineering strategies in pre-clinical models, developing patient-specific knock-in models, generating of patient cell lines and providing care to patients with a precision medicine approach. He is also leading efforts in FDA trials for gene therapies, including PDE6A, RAB geranylgeranyl transferase, RPGR, CNGB3, CNGA3 and ABCA4 retinopathies. He wrote 3 books: "Precision Medicine, CRISPR, and Genome Engineering: Movingfrom Association to Biology andTherapeutics" and "Stem Cell Biology and Regenerative Medicine in Ophthalmology", SpringerPress, NY; and "CRISPR Genome Surgery in Stem Cells and Disease Tissues", Elsevier Inc.He is an elected member of several honorary societies including the American Society forClinicalInvestigation, Alcon Research Institute and American Ophthalmological Society. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the NIH-National Institute of General Medical Sciences Medical Scientist Training Program (MSTP) at Columbia University. Dr. Tsang then completed his residency at Jules Stein Eye Institute/UCLA, followed by studies with Professors Alan C. Bird and Graham E. Holder on improving the care of individuals with macular degenerations.
