Biography: Dr. Douglas Rosen understands that visiting a colorectal surgeon can be awkward. With more than a decade of experience, he wants all of his patients to know that he will listen carefully and try to make the visit as easy as possible. Dr. Rosen appreciate his patients and his role in making them feel better. He loves interacting with different types of people as well as the variety between major surgery, office visits and outpatient procedures. While Dr. Rosen handles a wide variety of cases, he has a particular fondness for minimally invasive surgery for colorectal cancer. Outside of work, Dr. Rosen enjoys spending time with his wife and four daughters. Together, they enjoy traveling, swimming and just spending time with one another.

Biography: For the past 12 years, I have worked as a general community hematologist and oncologist in Asheville, NC where I specialized in treating multiple myeloma. My education started in Haiti, where I was born and raised. After immigrating to the U.S. with my family, I studied chemistry at Brooklyn College, City University of New York before attending medical and graduate school at the University of Rochester. Much of my clinical education took place in New York, where I combined my passion for care with my love of research. I studied gene expression in multiple myeloma and worked on early drug development for cancer. \n Today, I continue to pursue my passion for research and patient care. I hope to advance the field of cancer therapeutics through clinical trials. I currently serve as the director of the myeloma and plasma cell disorders program for the Novant Health Weisiger Cancer Institute.

Biography: As a surgeon, my father modeled a career in medicine my whole life. On a medical mission trip in college, I had the unique experience of assisting him in the operating room. That moment sparked my passion for medicine. Then, while I was in medical school, my family led me to the path I currently walk. My uncle, with whom I was very close, died from severe ulcerative colitis. Witnessing his suffering firsthand helped me hone my focus toward colorectal surgery. \n Today, I am board-certified in general surgery and colorectal surgery. For my professional development, I am also a member of the Gold Humanism Honor Society. \n Because my surgical career is so close to home for me, I think of each patient as a family member. Developing this close and trusting relationship helps me work with them individually to create the best treatment plan. Many of the conditions I treat are sensitive in nature, so as their provider, I place a strong emphasis on respect, privacy and understanding. \n Outside of the operating room, I am conducting research as part of a clinical trial evaluating new technologies for bowel surgeries. \n In my free time, I love swimming, reading, being an active member of my church and spending time with my family. Together, we love to go on runs, bike rides and nature walks.
