Care Philosophy: Dr. Sean Barber was born and raised in Spring, Texas. His interest in neuroscience began with an undergraduate degree in neurobiology from The University of Texas at Austin. He later received his Doctor of Medicine (MD) from The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and subsequently completed neurosurgery residency at Houston Methodist Hospital followed by a fellowship with Dr. Ziya Gokaslan in spinal oncology and spinal tumor surgery. He also studied endoscopic spinal surgery with Dr. Albert Telfeian at Brown University. Dr. Barber specializes in surgery for tumors of the spinal column, including meningiomas, schwannomas, chordomas, sarcomas and metastases. He also has substantial experience with endoscopic spine surgery, robotic spine surgery, image-guided spine surgery and other minimally invasive techniques, as well as complex spinal reconstruction, instrumentation and fusion. Dr. Barber's basic science research focuses on neuroregeneration after nervous system injury. He was awarded a grant in 2016 from the Wings for Life spinal cord research foundation to study the effects of spinal cord stimulation and stem cell transplantation on recovery after spinal cord injury. He has ongoing research affiliations with Dr. Phil Horner's lab studying neuroregeneration and stem cell therapy for neurological injury as well as with Dimitry Sayenko's lab studying spinal cord stimulation to restore function after spinal cord injury.

Care Philosophy: My goal is to work with my patients to improve their quality of life quickly, safely, and effectively. After my orthopaedic surgery training, I elected to undergo an additional year of specialized training at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City focusing on the treatment of degenerative conditions of the hip and knee. My training and expertise in the management of these conditions is founded on a commitment to up-to-date evidence-based medicine that is personalized to the unique needs and preferences of each patient. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my wife and young daughter, cooking, eating, fishing, and I look forward to exploring all South Texas has to offer.

While there, he had the privilege of providing team physician coverage for the Minnesota Twins of Major League Baseball, NHLs Minnesota Wild, University of Minnesota Division 1 Hockey, Gustavus Adolphus Division 3 Football, Minnesota Magicians NAHL Hockey, and Washburn High School Athletics teams. Prior to coming on board at Sterling Ridge Orthopaedics and Sports Medicine, Dr. Eilers spent time practicing in Odessa, Texas, where he provided team physician coverage for the University of Texas of the Permian Basin Division 2 athletics, Permian and Odessa High School athletics, and several other high schools in the West Texas region. Dr. Eilers' areas of focus include cartilage injuries to the knee, as well as tendon and complex ligamentous injuries to the knee, ankle, elbow, and shoulder. These injuries include multiple ligament knee injuries, anterior and posterior cruciate tears, meniscus injuries, rotator cuff tears, and biceps tendon injuries. In addition, Dr. Eilers also performs acute fracture care and manages osteoarthritis of the knee and shoulder with advanced procedures including partial and total joint replacement using Mako robotic technology.
