Biography: Dr. Shakil Ahmed is a board-certified pain physician with over two decades of experience at Weill Cornell Medicine. After completing six years of surgical training in the United Kingdom and earning his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (FRCS), Dr. Ahmed pursued residency training in anesthesiology at Columbia University, followed by a quad-institutional Pain Fellowship program at New York-Presbyterian, Hospital for Special Surgery, Memorial Sloan Cancer Center and Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center.Since joining the Anesthesiology department in 2001, Dr. Ahmed has been dedicated to advancing pain management through clinical care, teaching, and research. While in medical school, he spent time in Ghana on a Department of Preventative Medicine and Community Health scholarship . He completed a residency in Internal Medicine at NYU Medical Center/Bellevue Hospital. After medical school, he was an attending physician at the Bellevue Hospital Medical Clinic and started and ran an inpatient medical service for the clinic's hospitalized patients. Prior to joining Weill Cornell, Dr. Pitaro was a Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine at NYU Grossman School of Medicine and practiced internal medicine and primary care for over 28 years at Murray Hill Medical Group (later Caremount Medical Group). While at Murray Hill, in addition to a full time practice, he served on the executive committee and was the compliance officer. He lives in Cobble Hill, Brooklyn.
