Biography: Dr. Sotomayor is the director of the newly established Cancer Institute at Tampa General Hospital. He is a pioneer in the field of cancer immunology and immunotherapy and an internationally renowned expert in lymphoma research and treatment. Prior to joining Tampa General, he was the director of the George Washington University Cancer Center with responsibility and authority over all aspects of cancer care and research at GW and affiliated health systems. He was also a professor of medicine in the division of hematology/oncology at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Sotomayor specializes in the treatment of lymphomas and leukemias. The accomplished physician-scientist's ongoing research is directed toward cancer immunology and immunotherapy with special focus in developing novel immune-based approaches for the treatment of lymphomas and other hematologic malignancies. Considered as a world expert in mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), he has more than 140 publications including seminal discoveries published in top tier journals such as Nature Immunology, Nature Medicine, Blood, Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, Cancer Cell among others. He has been the recipient of several awards, including the recipient of the National Cancer Institute (NCI) CURE Lifetime Achievement award in 2017. Dr. Sotomayor is involved in several major medical societies and organizations and currently is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board, Lymphoma Research Foundation, member of the Executive Committee of the Mantle Cell Lymphoma Consortium and member of several committees of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR). He has also served in committees at the American Society of Hematology (ASH), the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the National Cancer Institute (NCI)

Care Philosophy: Dr Lancet, a Senior Member and Professor at Moffitt Cancer Center and Chair of the Department of Malignant Hematology, is well known for his expertise in the care of patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML), myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), myeloproliferative neoplasms, and other related hematologic cancers. He has a special interest in the care of older adults with these diseases and also leads the Leukemia Program here at Moffitt, where he has built a large portfolio of clinical trials for patients with AML and MDS. Dr Lancet completed his residency training in Internal Medicine and Hematology-Oncology fellowship at the University of Rochester (New York), before relocating to Moffitt Cancer Center in 2004.

Care Philosophy: Dr Chavez is an Associate Member in the Lymphoma Section of the Department of Malignant Hematology at Moffitt Cancer Center. Dr Chavez earned his MD from the Medical School at the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru. He completed his residency in Hematology at Hospital Edgardo Rebagliati Martins/Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru. He did his Internal Medicine training at the State University of New York in Buffalo, New York and completed his Medical Oncology training at the University of South Florida/Moffitt Cancer Center. Dr Chavez is board-certified in Internal Medicine and Medical Oncology.

Care Philosophy: Jhanelle E Gray, MD is the Department Chair, Program Leader and a Senior Member for Thoracic Oncology at the Moffitt Cancer Center (MCC), co-Leader of the Cancer Center Support Grant Molecular Medicine Program and Professor in the Department of Oncologic Sciences at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine. A renowned Thoracic medical oncologist and clinical scientist, Dr Gray is actively involved and leads numerous clinical research trials that investigate novel immunotherapeutic and targeted therapy drug combinations for lung cancer which have greatly influenced standard of care treatment. Her research has generated over 80 publications in scholarly, peer-reviewed journals, including original manuscripts and reviews.

Care Philosophy: Dr Kenneth Shain is an associate member in the Malignant Hematology program in the Department of Malignant Hematology, Tumor Biology, and the Chemical Biology and Molecular Medicine Program. Dr Shain has also been appointed as an Assistant Professor at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in the Department of Oncologic Sciences.Dr Shain is also a Director of the Myeloma Research Center.Dr Shain is a clinician scientist with time divided by clinic, clinic trials and translational research with a primary focus in multiple myeloma and other plasma cell relation disorders (including Waldenstrom Macroglobulinemia and Primary Amyloidosis).

Care Philosophy: Dr Bruna Pellini is an Assistant Member at the Department of Thoracic Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute and an Assistant Professor at Morsani College of Medicine at the University of South Florida. She specializes in the care of patients diagnosed with lung cancer. Dr Pellini received her medical degree from Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil and completed her internal medicine residency at University of Central Florida College of Medicine followed by her medical oncology fellowship at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Care Philosophy: Dr Vogelbaum is an internationally known leader in neurosurgical oncology and a distinguished investigator in laboratory research, translational and clinical trials in gliomas. Dr Vogelbaum is currently Chief of Neurosurgery and Program Leader of the Department of Neuro-Oncology at Moffitt Cancer Center. He has served on or led numerous scientific committees and holds an array of honors and awards, as well as leadership positions at the regional, national, and international levels. He is the principal investigator and co-investigator of a broad range of early-phase investigator-initiated therapeutic trials, both national and international multisite collaborative studies. He has published over 190 peer-reviewed and invited articles.

Care Philosophy: Dr Enas Abdallah is an Assistant Member in the Moffitt Cancer Center Department of Malignant Hematology. Dr Abdallah earned her MD from Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt. She completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Henry Ford Allegiance Health and a Geriatric Medicine Fellowship at Beaumont Health in Michigan. Dr Abdallah's clinical and scholarly interests are focused on inpatient management of malignant hematology patients. She will work closely with all members of the inpatient team to optimize care and outcomes.

Care Philosophy: Dr Sweet's clinical interests include myeloid malignancies with a particular focus on acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and chronic myeloid leukemia (CML). She completed her medical education at the Medical College of Virginia - Virginia Commonwealth University. Her Internal Medicine residency was completed at the University of Arizona, and her Hematology and Medical Oncology fellowship training was done at Moffitt Cancer Center/The University of South Florida. She is currently an Associate Member in the Department of Malignant Hematology at Moffitt Cancer Center and has an appointment as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Oncologic Sciences at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine.

Care Philosophy: Dr Aixa Soyano is an Assistant Member in the Department of Breast Oncology. Dr Soyano received her MD degree from Universidad Central de Venezuela/Escuela de Medicina in Venezuela. She completed an Internal Medicine Residency at Steward Saint Elizabeth's Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts. Dr Soyano recently completed a Hematology Oncology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Dr Soyano is interested in the multidisciplinary care of patients of any age and race with breast cancer of any stage and subtype. Her research interest is in the future of oncology related to personalized medicine.
