Biography: Dr. Joseph R. Murphy is board certified in gastroenterology and internal medicine. Dr. Murphy received his M.D. from the Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University in 1983 and performed his internal medicine training from 1983 to 1986 at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. After a three-year stint as an internal medicine specialist with the Army in Frankfurt, Germany, Dr. Murphy returned to Walter Reed for subspecialty training in gastroenterology from 1989 to 1991. He continued at Walter Reed as a staff gastroenterologist until 1993 when he entered private practice. Dr. Murphy is with the UM Charles Regional Medical Group and cares for patients at UM Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata and the hospital's new endoscopy center at the UM Charles Regional Medical Pavilion in Waldorf.
