Biography: Dr. Hans Burkholder offers specialized surgical care for people who have colorectal symptoms or diagnoses. Consultations are provided at two Brooklyn locations by Dr. Hans Burkholder, a board certified colon and rectal surgeon with specialty expertise and training in the diagnosis and surgical management of diseases of the colon, rectum, and anus. He is a board certified colon and rectal surgeon, also known as a proctologist, who specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of benign and malignant diseases involving the colon, rectum, and anus. Biography: Ziyad Nasrawi, M.D., is a Bariatric and General Surgeon at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Brooklyn and assistant professor of clinical surgery at Weil Cornell Medicine. Dr. Nasrawi performs minimally invasive bariatric, laparoscopic and robotic procedures. Including sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass, single anastomosis duodenal intestinal bypass (SADI), and revisional bariatric surgery. Dr. Nasrawi also specializes in foregut surgery including hiatal hernia, paraesophageal hernia, Nissen fundoplication and achalasia. He offers a minimally invasive approach to inguinal, ventral and incisional hernia with a passion for diastasis recti repair and abdominal wall reconstruction. Dr. Nasrawi graduated from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, Georgia. Then completed his general surgery internship and residency at NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist hospital and an advanced gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery fellowship at Jackson South Medical Center in Miami, Florida. Biography: Pieter Jan Sebastian Smit, MD, is a surgeon, specializing in general surgery, trauma surgery, and surgical critical care at NewYork-Presbyterian Medical Group Brooklyn, affiliated with NewYork-Presbyterian Brooklyn Methodist Hospital. He is an assistant professor of clinical surgery at Weill Cornell Medicine. Dr. Smit performs both elective and emergency surgeries and cares for patients in the surgical intensive care unit. His clinical interests include abdominal wall reconstruction, minimally invasive emergency surgery, and damage control surgery and resuscitation. Dr. Smit is also involved in resident education through Weill Cornell Medical College. After graduating from Albany Medical College, Dr. Smit completed his general surgery residency and surgical critical care fellowship training at Orlando Regional Medical Center and Boston Medical Center, respectively. Before coming to NewYork-Presbyterian, Dr. Smit was a surgeon at NYU Langone Health in Brooklyn, where he served in several leadership committees. Dr. Smit has presented his research at annual medical meetings of the American College of Surgeons is a member of multiple national surgical and trauma organizations.
