Biography: Dr. Samuels received his undergraduation education at the University of Rochester in New York and attended Medical School at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia. He completed his general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery training at Hahnemann and joined the faculty in 1995, assuming the directorship of the Heart Transplant and Ventricular Assist Device (VAD) Program in 1997. In 2001, Dr. Samuels and his team implanted the world's fifth total artificial heart (AbioCor). In 2003, Dr. Samuels joined the Main Line Health System as the Surgical Director of Heart Failure, establishing a transplant and VAD program. In 2009, Dr. Samuels rose to the rank of full professor of surgery at Thomas Jefferson University, joining their facutly full-time in 2016. In 2017, Dr. Samuels assumed the Clinical Directorship of Cardiac Surgery for the Einstein Healthcare Network. At present, Dr. Samuels maintains a busy clinical practice, specializing in Beating-Heart Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG) and the use of mechanical circulatory assist technologies (i.e LVADs and ECMO) for acute and chronic heart disease.

Biography: Keshava Rajagopal, MD, PhD, has joined Houston Heart and HCA Houston Healthcare from the University of Texas-Houston, as a cardiac surgeon. He will direct the Gulf Coast system's surgical programs in advanced heart and lung disease. This is planned to include short-term and durable mechanical circulatory support, heart transplantation, and lung transplantation. In addition, he will be faculty member in the new College of Medicine of the University of Houston, which is clinically partnered with HCA Houston Healthcare. In this capacity, he will develop research programs in basic and translational research. Dr. Rajagopal's surgical practice encompasses a broad range of adult cardiac operations to treat the majority of adult cardiopulmonary diseases. These include: coronary artery bypass grafting, aortic valve repair and replacement, aortic root replacement, ascending thoracic aortic replacement, mitral valve replacement, pulmonary thromboembolectomy and thromboendarterectomy, ventricular assist device implantation, heart transplantation, lung transplantation, and cannulation for short-term mechanical cardiac and pulmonary support. Dr. Rajagopal received his undergraduate education at the University of Pittsburgh, with a B.S. in Chemistry. His medical and graduate education were obtained at The University of Chicago, as part of the Medical Scientist Training Program. After graduation, he undertook training in general surgery inclusive of a postdoctoral research fellowship, and in cardiothoracic surgery, at Duke University Medical Center. Dr. Rajagopal then became an Assistant Professor at the University of Maryland. Thereafter, he was recruited to the University of Texas-Houston to found a new lung transplant program, where he was most recently an Associate Professor. Dr. Rajagopal has won numerous academic awards at each stage in his education and training, as well as a faculty member at both the University of Maryland and the University of Texas-Houston. He is widely published and has been a funded investigator, and is a member of several academic societies.

Biography: Salil Shah, MD is board certified in both general surgery and cardiothoracic surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons and American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Dr. Shah was the valedictorian of his graduating class at Ross University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in general surgery at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, New Jersey Medical School, Newark, NJ where he received numerous teaching awards. Dr. Shah continued his training with a fellowship in cardiothoracic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital the main teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School in Boston, Ma. Dr. Shah has a special interest in minimally invasive cardiac surgery, complex coronary revascularization, arrhythmia surgery, aortic surgery and the surgical treatment of heart failure. Dr. Shah sees patients in Philadelphia.

Biography: Dr Wjasow has been practicing in the specialty of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology for over 18 years and the former Medical Director of the Electrophysiology Laboratory at St. Francis Medical Center in Trenton, NJ. She is currently the Vice Chair and Member-at-Large in the Dept. of Cardiology at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital at Hamilton. Dr. Wjasow completed an Internal Medicine Residency and Cardiovascular Diseases Fellowship at Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia, and a Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship at Lankenau Hospital-Jefferson University Health System. Dr Wjasow has extensive experience and expertise in cardiac device management; the implantation of pacemakers, defibrillators and biventricular devices; ablations (SVT, ischemic and automatic endocardial VT, atrial fibrillation, typical and atypical atrial flutter) and Watchman. She successfully started a complex endocardial ablation program during her time as an Attending Physician at the Atlantic Heart Rhythm Center in Galloway, NJ and has collaborated with CT Surgery towards the goal of building a hybrid endocardial/epicardial AF ablation program. Dr Wjasow is an Assistant Clinical Professor of Medicine and previously the Director of the Electrophysiology Fellowship at Drexel University College of Medicine.
