Biography: William Galvin, III, MD has been delivering babies and treating women in the Merrimack Valley for over 26 years, with a passion for obstetrics and expertise in gynecological surgery.Hewas inspired to become a physician at the age of 16 after he spent the summer volunteering with an international community impact program. After months of training prior to the program's start, Dr. Galvin spent the summer traveling to different areas of Honduras helping to provide medical and dental care to young children. "The program was an incredible character building experience," says Dr. Galvin. "I found it to be one of the most rewarding things I've ever done in my life. I knew I wanted to be a doctor after that experience so I could help people."Today, Dr. Galvin continues to be dedicated to his profession, to continue learning, and to helping the community. "When I started out, I was interested in trying to help decrease teenage pregnancies, which the state and this community have made great strides at addressing over the last several decades," says Dr. Galvin. "As healthcare has changed over the years, I'm excited to now be part of our organization's goals of bringing care and services out of the hospital and into people's homes and the community. This type of care ties right back into what I did when I was 16 not just providing individual care, but looking at preventive, community-level care."Dr. Galvin's care philosophy focuses on three elements when seeing patients be prepared; be present and be purposeful. "I didn't invent that saying but it resonated with me when I first heard it," he says. "I think about these three things before I enter the room for any patient appointment. The greatest asset I think any doctor can have is the ability to listen. I am always consciously trying to make sure I spend time listening to my patients and hearing what they are saying.""As an obstetrician, this profession is a very rewarding, thankful and positive experience most of the time," says Dr. Galvin. "It is so important to me to remember why I chose this career path during that summer in Honduras. One of my greatest joys in life is to have somebody say thank you for doing something that has really helped them."Dr. Galvinis a Fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is also a member of Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists, New England Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, and the Massachusetts Medical Society. Outside of work, Dr. Galvin is dedicated to his family and friends. He spends as much time as possible with his wife and kids, as well as his close circle of friends. He also enjoys golfing, skiing, reading, traveling, and his newest hobby maintaining his saltwater reef tank.
