Vicky Gutierrez, PA-C

I brought my 76-year-old mother who has advanced dementia to the ER where the physician admitted her to the hospital. Vicky Gutierrez was the PA who attended her and discharged her. My mother was discharged to our home completely unable to stand or walk. Her functional ability was still significantly decreased upon discharge, which Gutierrez failed to tell me. At home, I had no way to transfer my mother to the toilet, shower, or bed. When I called Gutierrez, she said, "I was told her baseline was transfer only." But the RN case manager said she had told the medical team that my mother's baseline included walking independently. Gutierrez suggested that she stay home for two days before a PT could evaluate her. Presumably, Gutierrez was okay with my mother living in filth for those two days since I couldn't transfer her to a toilet. We have dealt with a range of practitioners but none took as a lax an attitude toward patient safety and comfort as Vicky Gutierrez.
