Immediately following suture removal from CMC Arthroplasty surgery, the on-site area to receive the hand/arm splint that is mandatory wearing for 4 weeks occurred. I’ve had custom splints of this exact molded type over the years that exceptional highly credentialed therapists molded perfectly. These splints are simple in their design. Cutting out a square, soften in hot water, mold to the application, apply Velcro tape/strips, & done doesn’t require much skill. Molding a splint, taking into consideration rough edges that should have been eliminated by slight pressure by OT’s finger tips, using properly sized Velcro pieces that will be completely covered by the straps instead of 5” long sticky strips and 7” long straps. With 1 useful hand, pulling on absurdly long straps, adds to the frustration/discomfort each time the splint is taken on/off. Nothing was offered or discussed about upcoming exercises. FYI, the splint can be cut with regular scissors to eliminate pressure/swelling.
