Sara Van Tongeren, MSW

I think Sarah is passionate about her work and has done admirable advocacy for the LGBTQ community. I think she's better as an academic. I can't imagine how she'd handle clients with any moderate to severe clinical issues. In our sessions, she was very quick to draw conclusions about me as a whole person and dismiss my experience, ruling my explanations as defensive instead of going deeper or exploring the interaction. Any request to explain the conclusion resulted in 'you must not trust me.' Which from the bottom of my heart, I do, I definitely can be, aren't most humans sometimes? I was extremely intimate on the second session during brain spotting. She dismissed me as a client on the third session saying 'you need a therapist you can trust' interesting since my trauma centers around abandonment, which she was aware of. I've thought a lot about that and am grateful for the other therapist I've seen since who's more than willing to walk me through their theories or assertions.
