Dr. Richard Theis, PHD

When my attorney told me Theis would be the court examiner I came to this website to check his ratings. After reading how bad he is I thought to myself, wow what a bunch of sore losers. After my experience with him every single negative remark is 100% accurate. It was obvious from the very first meeting I didn't have a chance. He made rude comments, didn't let me defend myself against false claims, once referred to me as "you people", told me "be careful what you wish for or you will lose your summer visitation". All I wanted was to spend more time with my children. In the end he made it much more difficult for me to see them and like he said, took away my summer visitation. After getting the report there where many lies and inconsistencies. There were rants of accusations from my ex that clearly showed how unhinged she is and apparently went right over his head. 6 years ago Dr. Theis was court appointed to us. He recommended that my son live with his father who was single and had “more one on one time” to give him because I had other “obligations” those other obligations were my other 2 children. He stated in his evaluation that I provided a stable and loving home and was financially capable to provide for him. Due to his recommendation my son was sent to live with his dad and 6 years later he doesn’t carry insurance on him like he’s supposed to, locks him in his room, and treats him poorly. Dr. Theis has ruined so many opportunities for my son to live a better life and be a happier child. I would run from this doctor while you can.

Our evaluation was a more than tedious process but Dr. Theis was thorough and his staff made it as seamless as they could.

An amazing psychologist, so great with my children and had their best interest in mind. Very lucky to have found someone in the court system who put my children first.

terrible doctor. so nasty and rude. Dr. Richard Theis is unethical and will ruin the lives of your children and split your family in half. He is biased, and unfair. I am so glad I was able to get my son in to see another REAL doctor and he is doing so much better now and is happy NO THANKS TO DR RICHARD THEIS who was insulting and mean.

Dr Richard Theis should not be practicing. He needs to have his liscence taken away. If he is court appointed to you COMPLAIN AND ASK FOR SOMEONE ELSE. Dr. Theis does not care about anything but his check. When talking to me and my child he was completely uniterested and lazy. He is completely unethical. he is a paid lackey abuse men who want access to their children STAY AWAY FROM THIS MAN AND IS OFFICE YOU WILL REGRET DEALING WITH HIM. What is more important than your child?

Dr. Theis is very smart and knowledgeable. He is really sweet with kids and genuinely cares about them. We had a great time working with him. Many of the reviews are rather negative, but I would assume that they did not get their way. Dr. Theis spends time carefully looking at everything and makes a rational, unbiased recommendation. I would definitely recommend his services!

Ordered to conduct an assessment by the court. The amount of time he spent conducting an "evaluation" that has lifelong consequences amounted to a total of about 4 hours: one interview and one sheet of paper. No contact with other mental health professionals that had been involved, no review of documentation, no questions, no tests, or the myriad of other things a half-way competent evaluator would/should do. Half-@ssed, superficial garbage was the result. He justified his complete lack of effort to even attempt to meet his requirements by saying "they're only guidelines." It didn't stop him from presenting his lacking information and ignorant opinions as fact. Intentionally obtuse in court to protect his own incompetence. Keep this unethical farce away from your family.

I worked with Dr Theis and his assistant Nadelle in a recent custody evaluation. Dr Theis spent three times as long with my ex-husband than he did with me, did not ever question me about MY concerns, but only asked about my ex-husband's stories and cut me off when I tried to talk about my idea of the larger situation at hand. Im a man of very few words, however, in regards to Dr. Theis, he was realistic and honest. I paid more than I bargained for but knew that was a possibility coming in to the Evaluation. My ex-wife and I decided to leave comments because at the start of this evaluation, reading them, I was completely unsure but he was highly recommended by my attorney/judge. I understand people being upset by a process but this was NOT my case. Dr. Theis is for the children.

Dr. Theis appeared uninterested in each session. What he determined as normal parent / child behavior, the real therapist addressed. When the child said he was thinking of hurting himself, we were told not to involve another therapist. She was able to work with both houses and we now have health homes and a happy kid. He is clearly just interested in money.

Read these reviews before you give this man anything! Proceed with caution as you share information about your child or children. DO NOT give him any audio messages. He will deliberately use it against you if he is working for the other side. He has no problem lying under oath, nor does he have a problem communicating illegally with other attorneys involved breaking his own code of ethics. He testifies that he is incapable of being biased. Another lie.. Read every review you trust him!

If you are required to see this man, you need to be very careful. Although it is not permitted by family law statutes, he will communicate with one side and is open to bias. Do NOT take the tests he requires of you on paper or scantron. He can manipulate the scores to make you appear as he decides. He has no problem lying under oath. The report he will provide has absolutely no forensic data in it. He also uses Stuart Greenberg as a reference. Go look up that pervert.

From beginning to end of the process, Dr. Theis and the young woman he works with, worked with my schedule and explained what exactly the process would consist of. They answered my questions and were patient with ME. As a parent I have questions and I want what is best for my child, a divorce is a hard situation for anyone, they made it alittle bit easier on this side of the spectrum. I recommend Dr. Theis!

I saw Dr. Theis in 2016 for a Child Custody Evaluation, the process is intense, emotional, and like all things that are worth doing right, financially affordable. I was court appointed to Dr. Theis so I didn't know exactly what to expect and after reviewing some of the reviews online I was uneasy. Dr. Theis was diligent, understanding, available and his staff made this probably about as smooth as it could possibly be.

So many things wrong on my paper. From DOB to diagnoses. He didn't even fully quote everything I said. Kept answering his phone while talking to me, cutting me off mid sentence and explained to me how he needed to leave already. He completely forgot he had an appointment with me so he was 20 mins late. And then rushed me right out of there. Don't use this Dr and his receptionist is even worse! Yelled at me cause I accidentally called her the previous receptionist name.

If there was a negative star, then that's what I'd post. One sided. No personality. Which is not his fault I guess. Does not listen to what you tell him. Couldn't spell my child's name correctly. Asked same questions on both sides, but types more on the other. He just doesn't do "Apples to Apples".

The Dr has ZERO credibility! He was paid to "poke holes" into a judge appointed child evaluations. He claimed that it had "inconsistencies and flat out lies". The original evaluation report took 6 interviews to be completed. The Dr didn't interview me once or asked to view any of the evidence. How can anyone come up with a credible conclusion without meeting anybody, unless it's obviously biased or the Dr is saying he reads minds!
