Owen Mazon, LCSW-R

I don't know what he calls it, but that wasn't like any "psychoanalysis" I've ever experienced, read about, or heard about. 1. I wasn't particularly impressed that Mazon is a good listener. I found myself repeatedly re-telling the same stories because he'd forgotten what I'd told him a couple of months before. He doesn't seem to take notes at all. As a result, his observations were pretty unoriginal. Worse, at times I got the impression that he was just telling me what he thought I wanted to hear. Sometimes it seemed like he was just phoning it in. 2. Mazon can be agressively hostile at the idea that a therapist should offer even a basic theoretically-informed observation or insight, let alone a clinical diagnosis. Or even a strategy for treatment. I felt like I'd been bullied into not asking any basic questions about my own mental health care. We went on for another six months or so -- I figured I'd give it a full year before finding someone else, which is what I did.

Owen assisted my husband and I with couples' therapy. He was wonderful: very patient, knew when to step in and facilitate a conversation about to get stuck and when to hang back, and helped us find the thread of love that had gotten bogged down in everyday drudgery. He was very aware of intercultural issues faced by an interracial couple. I recommend him highly.
