Mitchell Lurye, LCSW-R

I first saw Mitchell Lurye about 5 years ago while I was recovering from a truly terrible period of low mental health. I've found him and his approach dependable, laid-back, low/no-drama - all things that I needed as I recovered from a stressful, high-drama, chaotic period of my life. I found his work helpful in my healing, and worked with him on a regular basis for a couple years. I still check in occasionally when I am facing periods of particular life challenge.

Mitchell has supported me as I've forged my new, solid sense of self, uncovering the deep roots of my traumas. Mitchell is both caring, gentle and loving while challenging and encouraging of growth. He has a deep understanding of psychotherapy, cultural competency and listening. Inspired by my work with Mitchell, I began graduate school to become a therapist myself. I recommend Mitchell to anyone seeking a laid back, perceptive and open therapist, especially those just beginning their therapeutic journey.

I initially had a good experience with Mr. Lurye. As time went on, he became,judgmental, berating, belittling and ended up revictimizing and retraumatizing me. I was and still am trying to recover from serious violence and each session that was spent with him was more critical than helpful. I feel bad for him Ronan extent because I was told he still receives his own therapy.Nonetheless, I would not recommend his services.,

While his methods may work for some, I strongly advise those who are NOT politically left leaning to look elsewhere for treatment. I felt that he often thought what I was saying was against his personal belief system, and thus, it would create conflict and make our entire session useless. Opening up to someone who makes you feel like a bad person is hard, and that is not an environment that is conducive to receiving good therapeutic treatment.
