Prepared me for parenthood
I was diagnosed with OCD and immediately prescribed meds at 18. I still had occasionally debilitating symptoms for years. It wasn’t until my husband and I decided to try for our first child, and I wanted to get off medication that I found Kathleen Norris. She listened, empathized, seemed to understand all my concerns, thoughts, and behaviors, and really helped me to face them, work through them, and keep anxiety and OCD from overtaking my life during pregnancy and thereafter. I’ve had quite a few people familiar with OCD tell me they don’t think I have it since then, but it’s just that it’s no longer a huge interference in my day-to-day life. Mrs. Norris helped me to understand that OCD would always be there to some degree, but it didn’t have to run/ruin my life. I would definitely recommend her to anyone struggling with OCD and/or body-focused repetitive behaviors.

Dr. Norris is not the right provider if your child has ADHD. She believes that children with ADHD are too lazy to focus/function as a normal person and that if they wanted to, they could. Going to Dr. Norris as a child only exacerbated my anxiety and she's a major part of why I now suffer from depression. Nine out of ten times, I would be in tears of self loathing coming home from her office, and I would often proceed to self harm (which she believes is merely attention-seeking behavior). Many of the issues I struggle with today directly stem from her "therapy".

Our child saw Dr. Norris for about a year with no results. She was not able to make a connection with our child or with us. Dr. Norris’s main approach seems to be Christian counseling and if you are not extremely religious she is not the right therapist for you.
