Terrible with kids
We had our 10 year old see him 4 times. In the first session he wanted my husband and I to fire our individual and marriage therapists and see him instead. He told me to have our kids wear plain and used clothes, give them flavorless food, take all toys from the house, and put their mattresses on the floor. He also said I needed to punish them harshly for everything (he only met 1/3 of my kids and he felt comfortable telling me how to parent them). My kids all have autism and other issues. Negative reinforcement doesn’t work. My kids do better with positive reinforcement. Besides, if everything is negative what hope are they going to have? He told me I had to do exactly what he said or else they would end up in prison. I told him no and we mutually fired each other. He wanted me to do terrible things to my kids and I wasn’t about to. Plus him wanting to be the therapist for all of us was disconcerting. That seems like it’d be a conflict of interests.

A mom who is not here for it – Apr 01, 2022

Dr. Stevens did the one thing that counselors are not supposed to do, he got personally and emotionally involved. As an individual psychologist, he didn't do any harm, but he didn't do any good either. I do not suggest him as a marriage counselor, because he caused deep harm in my marriage. He can help an individual process their thoughts and try to fix up their life, but when it comes to actually overcoming the denial and fear, I didn't see any growth. I would not suggest him.

Nice guy, but wasn't for me. When I brought up my intense and concerning mood swings, he suggested it was because I am a woman and that women have more drama. I did not feel like I was taken seriously.

Not a guy that's gonna sit there, tell you the world is rainbows and butterflies and sugar coat everything. He tells you how to FIX what you're going through, rolls up his sleeves and ACTUALLY HELPS YOU learn how to HELP YOURSELF. I've seen many Doctors that quietly take notes for an hour and ask you AND HOW DOES THAT MAKE YOU FEEL, watches the clock and then tells you SEE YOU NEXT WEEK, SAME TIME?.....THAT'S NOT MARK. BE READY TO FACE REALITY, FACE YOURSELF AND GET REAL HELP.
