Marilou Shaughnessy

I saw Dr. Shaughnessy after waiting months to join a support group for chronic pain patients. I was a young woman in such severe pain I was unable to take basic care of myself and was bedridden the majority of the time. Dr. Shaughnessy told me the group would be a great fit, after a one hour one-on-one. The group was mostly men, and the youngest twice my age. I heard an elderly man complain about how his pain limited his ability to trot around with his grandkids in Paris. He absolutely deserves a group to talk about that, but I shouldn't have been there, when my chronic pain meant I couldn't go food shopping or think about starting my own family. It was also frustrating to hear the men complain about how many doctor's appointments they had and how hard it was to keep up with them when I'd had to fight and switch doctors to get any medical care. I've never felt so alone in my life as I did after that support group. I deeply regret that Dr. Shaughnessy put me in that situation.
