Marcy was my GP for several years. I went to her with a skin lesion on my leg I developed during pregnancy. She told me it was likely just a papule and to come back if it changed. A year later my husband persisted that I get a second opinion at which time Marcy had left the clinic. Both new doctors I saw said it was definitely skin cancer and I needed a biopsy stat. It turned out to be leiomyosarcoma, which is a very dangerous rare cancer if it spread. I needed a surgery with an oncologist with margins for safety. Thankfully it was caught before spread but Marcy should have ordered a biopsy. This delayed my treatment for a year and could have had a terrible outcome. I was told later by other doctors that it was irresponsible that a biopsy wasn’t ordered from the beginning and that I was reassured it was nothing. Always demand a biopsy, patients.
