Dr. Mara Walsh, OD

Dr. Walsh is an excellent optometrist. I have been seeing her for over 20 years and she is always very thorough, conscientious and personable.

I woke on a Thursday Nov 9th 2024 with the classic symptoms of a tear. Flashes and floaters. Thursday afternoon eye saw Dr. Mara Walsh at Westminster Colorado location. She gave me am exam including a retinal scan. I was told she didn't see anything and was told the flashes were probably "neurological". I was told to contact them if anything changes. Friday evening after hours a black curtain formed in the corner of my eye. Saturday morning it was getting worse. I contacted Dr. Walsh and she informed me that I would be charged again for another visit because they aren't routine. And. because she might be able to help it could be a waste of money. She gave me a retina specialist number but they wouldn't be open on weekends. Sunday the curtain caused me to go completely blind in my right eye. Monday I saw a retinal specialist and they scheduled me for retinal detachment surgery for Wednesday the 15th. The retina was macula off. Every bit of knowledge on earth concerning tears says to get into surgery immediately. Waiting until it detaches especially macula off SEVERELY reduces your chances of vision recovery. Every eye doctor knows this. Dr Walsh didn't ever inform me how serious my condition was or what the outcome could be if I wasn't seen immediately. If she didn't have the ability or instruments to see my tear on Thirsday she could have informed me to see a specialist immediately. The symptoms were clear. All I had on my side was time. My vision is poor now and am informed that because the macula was affected it will be permanent. If I was seen early it would have been merely a tear to deal with instead of a complete detachment. Dr Walsh cost me vision and has impacted me probably for the rest of my life.
