I am in the process of out processing the military and talked with Dr. Barnes-Young as a part of the VES (VA) process. Dr. Barnes-Young took a significant amount of time to talk with me to understand my full situation. I felt genuine care from her and felt the time she gave me was adequate and a fair amount of itme with the diagnosis she presented. Thank you for taking the time to "understand" me and the situations I have lived through over the last 20 years. I wish I could talk to her more.

Thankful Veteran
I recently got out of the military. I had Dr Barnes for my psych VES exam. She was the only psychiatrist I’ve ever spoke to that understood me. She mentioned something no one else had ever brought up. Now 7 months after my appointment with her, I came across the same diagnosis she had proposed during our time together. I am now trying to contact her on my own accord and I stubbles across these reviews and I can personally say that I felt she was more than capable of handling my case. She was very knowledgeable and extremely caring. I did no research on any of my providers before seeing them and I’m glad I didn’t. I feel like if I had seen one of the previous reviews, I would’ve stayed away and missed the opportunity to get to be seen by her. Thank you, Dr Barnes.

While this person has experience in early childhood development, sexual and gender identity and domestic violence which is commendable, she lacks the experience in PTSD, MDD and other MH issues related to veterans. Not sure how she became an examiner for VES. In her online 8 page resume, there is not one mention of her work with veterans, PTSD, MDD or other MH disabilities that veterans experience. This has become the normal for the VA in these days. Take the time to look into who is evaluating you, their social media pages, college records etc, it's your exam, take responsibility for it. Full disclosure I had a C&P exam scheduled with her but cancelled after further investigation
