Kerry is friendly and provides insightful solution-focused advice for crisis situations. That said, she has a lot of preconceived opinions and insists she knows more than the patient despite her profile which emphasizes a collaborative relationship. Her online profiles also list a number of modalities and expertise that she doesn’t actually want to use or treat. She seems to listen more to these preconceptions than the client and often needs to be reminded of something you just explained, which feels dismissive. Brass tacks: if you’re not experiencing an immediate crisis and don’t want to be treated with baby hands, she is likely the wrong fit.

Kerry Powers has a warm manner, is good making you feel comfortable - and maybe is a truly excellent therapist for the patients she wants to treat. Give her a try but don’t invest until she decides you fit her desired type of patient- that may take her a few sessions to decide. She lists a number of conditions in her Psychology Today and Portland Psychotherapy Center profile that she actually prefers not to treat. Just be careful.
