If you are going to the dermatologist for skin cancer prevention, be aware, follow your gut instincts and don’t see Kellie Duarte, PA. My Mom, who has dementia, went in for a yearly skin exam. She is new to the area and we picked the provider based on positive reviews. Kellie Duarte, PA, did the skin exam and sent her home with instructions to call if the spots she froze changed. When we tried to make another apt in 6 months Kellie was adamant that my mom shouldn’t come back for one year. My Mom has a history of melanoma and therefore should be seen every 6 months at the very least. The fact that Kellie was relying on a cognitively impaired patient to report changes and not following her closely, even with her history of melanoma and cancer was extremely negligent. I took my Mom to another dermatologist because I was concerned about a spot on her cheek that Kellie didn’t even bother to document about even though it was on her profile picture.
