Dr. Karen McDowell, OD

I saw Dr McDowell recently for my yearly exam and she told me my vision was stable so I could continue to wear my current glasses. I was very happy that she did not try to sell me a new pair!

I Saw Dr McDowell for a repeat eye exam from another doctor. I thought I was going crazy when I told the staff I could not see with my new prescription! But Dr McDowell worked me into her schedule and not only took the time to explain the reason for my vision issues but did so at my level. She listened to my complaints and gave me perfect answers to all my questions. I wish she were available at this location all the time!

Dr. McDowell made it clear that she doesn’t like “difficult” patients. The problem is that she loosely determines what difficult is based on little contextual information, such as: age, type of problem, purpose of visit. It borders on some sort of discrimination, and the staff around her walk on eggshells, which is why she probably gets away with it.

My ophthalmologist discussed cataract surgery. It may not be a big deal but I wanted a "second opinion". Dr. McDowell prescribed some new glasses enabling me to see very well. Maybe I'll have the cataracts removed in the future but it's not necessary now.

Dr. McDowell was very helpful and concerned about my eyes. Dr. McDowell answered all my questions so I could understand.

Loved Dr. Karen McDowell at Lasik Vision. Excellent experience. Staff friendly, doctor friendly and informative. We talked about Lasik and a variety of topics. She was very easy to talk with. Loved that I could get rid of my contacts! Highly recommend Dr. McDowell!

I saw Dr Karen McDowell at Lasik Vision in Birmingham. She was fabulous. She explains things so well, I had no idea why my eyes were so red all the time. I was glad I chose to get rid of my glasses! The Lasik procedure was quick and I was actually seeing 20/20 the day afterwards. Dr McDowell was there to check me at my 1 day post op exam Sunday morning. The staff informed me that the company was no longer providing yearly exams after Lasik. As a result I will be following Dr McDowell at her other offices (she subs in several places) for my yearly exams. Dr McDowell is very caring and concerned about not only my eyes but me as a person.

Saw Dr. McDowell at America’s Best in Montgomery, AL. She is by far the BEST eye doctor I’ve dealt with, ever. Her personality is great & she really knows what she’s doing with the eye exams!! Highly recommend her!

Dr. McDowell is excellent - she has a chipper bedside manner and is very thorough with her exams. I was so glad to have the privilege of seeing her for an eye exam. I hope she’s available the next time I go to America’s Best.

I highly recommend using Dr. McDowell. I first saw her at Americas Best Contacts and Eyeglasses Lakeshore Drive in Birmingham. She has a wonderful personality and takes the time to make sure everything is correct with your vision before you leave. I had a problem with the Montgomery location and when I had to go back for them to fix it luckily Dr. McDowell was there filling in. She fixed the problem that Dr. Noble would not. I am very grateful to be able to see correctly again!
