Here’s my experience…..you be the judge.
As a new patient, it took months just to see a Nurse Practitioner(NP) at TDDC(900 W. Magnolia Avenue Fort Worth, TX). To actually schedule with a doctor would have taken even longer and considering the seriousness of my illness, I had no choice but to take the lesser wait time for a NP. I was assured all NPs were “monitored” by an overseeing physician……which apparently means very little.
My ongoing health records were made available and the NP had reviewed them before my appointment. I had been there mere minutes when she weirdly started honing-in on a couple of prescriptions I’d been issued previously for PAIN medication. Then, she stated I had recently gone to the emergency room and was issued MORE pain medication. This was so-o not true and instantly, I tried to correct her…..saying that she must be looking at someone else’s records or the information was entered by mistake but no, she wouldn’t listen to anything otherwise.
Again, I had NEVER been to the emergency room! And “yes”, other doctors had recently prescribed pain medication but I never asked for these prescriptions nor picked-up any from the pharmacy! So now, I understandably had serious doubts of the NP’s supposed abilities. Plus, all this going back and forth was wasting the precious few minutes of my appointment time to address why I was actually there! And unbelievably, with all her supposed concern about the “excessive” pain medication, she then offered me MORE……which, as usual, I refused!
After arriving home, the first thing I did was to re-contact the office. The NP’s nurse assistant pulled my records…..there was absolutely NO mention of an emergency room visit anywhere…..and she had no explanation whatsoever for the NP’s confusion and obvious error. I myself further investigated and as it turned out, the date of the supposed “emergency room” visit was in actuality a scheduled appointment I had had with my dentist(at his office) for a root canal surgery weeks earlier. And “yes”, I was justifiably given pain medication as the roof of my mouth needed an incision requiring several stitches, for the procedure.
How the NP misconstrued all this really raises concerns about her competence as a medical provider of ANY type…..which directly reflects on TDDC itself. Do they not expect better from their providers? Apparently not…..ultimately, they refused to admit any wrongdoing and I was certainly never given an apology! Seems the NP has also suddenly developed a form of “selective dementia”, as she now claims to not even recall our lengthy conversation. Ha!
