Revelation
My intake meeting with Dr. Showalter was excellent! In the hours ahead of our meeting, I unfortunately had the most stressful event in my 80-yr life! The relaxing atmosphere of his office and his calm demeanor helped settle me. Dr. Showalter is kind, softspoken personable. Continuing with the interview, his quiries (about myself and my life) were pleasant. I enjoyed meeting Dr. Showalter, and the psych-eval experience that followed with his Assistant, Kaitlin.

Great help with Addictions
Dr. Showalter's knowledge of alcohol and drug addiction is thorough and complete. He knows how recovery programs work and how positively effective they can be to most (but not all) people who rigorously cooperate with those long-term prescribed recovery programs.  He also has a highly professional understanding of the effects of 'denial,' or the propensity of the person who is addicted to push away from or fight against any attempts to lead that person to recovery-- even when the sufferer is facing dire circumstance.  Dr. Showalter has decades of experience in carefully dedecting and understanding the affects of addiction on family, societal groupings and the legal system.

Family Psychiatic Help
Dr. Showalter helped our family out with psychiatric issues that desperately needed to be addressed. He was respectful of all concerned, patient in the finding phase, and thorough with his diagnosis and recovery. Dr. Showalter explained his diagnosis thoroughly and the fact that we had multiple psychiatric issues combined made his findings all the more complex. The best thing about this doctor was that he focused on building healthy and positive actions for all involved which would result in the best possible outcome. We are incredibly grateful for Dr. Showalter in helping us through probably the most difficult time of our lives.

Waste of Time
Dr. Showalter interviewed me and later told me that I was either embellishing my answers or was lying. He clearly did not listen to me when I received paperwork back with incorrect information about myself that he wrote. Someone who does not believe their patients when they are trying to seek mental health help should not be in the mental health field. This has caused me to have issues opening up to other mental health care professionals and has hindered me from seeking further help.

Stay clear of this "doctor." He is awful. Doesn't listen, retracts statements, makes you feel incompetent, has no business in the mental health field. To think he is associated with Woodrow Wilson Rehabilitation and Workforce Center in Staunton gives me chills he's any where near the in patients.
