Dr. Marcus has been exceptional
I started therapy with Dr. Marcus almost four years ago. At the time I was really hurting from anxiety, depression, guilt, and panic attacks. I appreciate that he always connects you with books on the topic you’re working on so you feel like you’re making progress each day and not just at the appointments. He is always understanding when I want to adjust the frequency of my visits based on how I’m feeling. I like that he doesn’t spend a lot of time labeling what’s wrong with me and instead focuses on opportunities for improvement in my thoughts and how I process information. I’m forever grateful for his existence and knowledge.

Dr. Marcus
I've been seeing Dr. Marcus for over three years and can't express how helpful it has been to have someone like him with whom I can discuss things about myself that I don't feel comfortable discussing with other people. It can be a difficult process to find someone with whom I feel that I can be completely honest, and Dr. Marcus has allowed me to be myself, let my "guard" down, and be willing to put everything on the table; this has allowed me to get a better perspective of my life, behavior, and decision making by helping me to figure out why I do the things I do. Dr. Marcus has helped me to work through my anxiety and depression, substance abuse issues, and grief processing. I will continue to see Dr. Marcus as it is always liberating to vocalize my thoughts and get the perspective of an unbiased party so I can see how I can look at things differently. I highly recommend Dr. Marcus; it can be difficult to find the therapist, but I am more at ease since I began meeting with him.

He is pretty amazing!
I came to Dr. Marcus for help with what I felt were a ton of issues. Instead, Dr. Marcus took the time and explained things to me in detail. I have to say that in the short time I've been his patient I feel better about myself and the things I am going through. He listens to understand and he is empathetic while doing it. I am learning a lot and making changes left and right. I am so grateful I have the opportunity to work with such a knowledgeable and kind individual. Dr. Marcus is a true blessing in my life. I cannot express the gratitude I have for him and his work. I get to talk and talk and talk, and he still pulls something out of his "hat", and when he does I am learning more and more about me and why I do what I do. It's always a pleasure to work with Dr. Marcus and I am always excited for our visits. I recommend Dr. Marcus- go and check him out. He is pretty phenomenal.

Does not personalize service
I had a very negative experience with Dr Marcus and decided to pursue care with another provider: 1) Your first session is spent essentially collecting information like payment which easily could be collected prior to starting. I spent over $140 dollars to have him get info he could have asked for beforehand 2) He reads off a paper the entire session and makes no attempt to tailor his care. I expressed multiple times that I had tried the techniques he had suggested with little success. He didn't seem interested in engaging with me or trying to understand why the techniques didn't work. 3) He does little to establish trust or show that he cares for his patients. He made me feel like he was just clocking in so he could charge for the session rather than trying to build rapport and trust. I didn't feel comfortable opening up to him and frankly he never asked questions to try to understand the root cause of my anxiety.

What a difference Doc Marcus made for me!
I had the misfortune to be raised by a brutal mom who used "beat them into submission" parenting. That and words of endearment such as "I should have flushed you down the toilet when I had the chance." Though I moved far away from her, I couldn't quite recover, on my own, from the anger her brutality kept within me. Worse yet, I married a woman just like my evil mom. Despite a good paying job, I wasn't happy with my life and I was suicidal. My employer had a program that paid for 10 sessions with a Psychologist, so I decided to try therapy. Luckily, they assigned me to Gary Marcus. He used the early sessions to get to know me and then, at session #8 or 9, he had me play-act being my mother to demonstrate how brutal her leather-strap beatings were. I thought this was silly at first, but I did it anyway. Then he had me reverse roles, become me, then tell her what I thought of her. Like magic, my anger vanished and I felt great after! I'm happy and healthy now thanks to Gary!

I came for help with depression. At the same time I was seeking medical help, so I had counseling coupled with medication. The combination really helped me get out of my rut and start moving forward again. I feel like I have more tools to recognize warning signs in my own thinking and more tools to turn that around for myself. Thank you!

I've been working with Dr. Marcus for about 12 weeks to help with my anxiety and panic disorder. During these sessions, Dr. Marcus clearly explained everything we reviewed and always answered any questions that I had. We went through actionable methods to reduce panic attacks and anxiety and they have been extremely helpful — I've experienced significant improvements.

Dr. Marcus helped me get over my depression after what had been a crazy year. I went from someone who did nothing and hated myself for it to a father & husband my wife and daughters could respect. Dr. Marcus's technique helped me in seeing myself for who I was then and who I can be if I put my mind to it. I have to say that at first I was hesitant but with every session he helped me find more and more ways to grow and and different paths to take.

Dr. Marcus was organized, respectful, and effective. His visits were a good mixture of listening and asking for input. I left each visit with concrete steps and/or resources to implement and try out. I never felt my time was wasted. Once my issue had improvement, he never pressured me to stay for additional visits. If you are willing to do the work on your issue, Dr. Marcus will be a good psychologist to consider to help you on your journey.

I saw Dr. Marcus for a little over 2 years. He really helped me realign after I left an abusive relationship. He also worked with me over the course of a long custody trial. He did a great job listening and asking pertinent questions that would shine light on different ways of looking at the situation. His advice also increased my confidence level in my own parenting skills. Most importantly I never felt judged by anything I told him, which in turn made listening to his advice much easier. Overall, I would recommend him to a friend or family member.

Dr Marcus worked with me through my anxiety and panic episodes for approx 6 months. He was realistic and transparent in explaining to me what to expect, how we will approach exercises and discussions, etc. He was great in explaining things and used realistic examples to ensure I comprehended. He was very patient in that he worked with me through my primary issue which was anxiety and once we completed that topic, moved along to helping me become more assertive (which was one of the underlying issues of any anxiety). He was never condescending or rude, never dismissive and I felt he genuinely listened and applied a treatment plan focused on my individual needs and care. I would recommend him in a heartbeat.

I've seen Gary for over 15 years off and on. When things get rough in life I continue to go back to him. He has helped me through panic disorder, a divorce, and many other things. He creates an environment in which you want to tell him things (and I've been to many counselors that don't) and his advice is invaluable. I have seen the recent bad reviews and I blame the narrator. I do not have enough kind words to support Gary and his practice. He is, by far, the best counselor I have ever seen!! I'm happy to have you contact me to verify that. You would be blessed to have his consultation.

Terrible...Always "running late", not interested in anything but money and/or insurance coverage. Just gives you handouts and textbooks to read (which he will charge you for) despite them being cheaper online. He lacks the ability to individualize care, and work outside of his "textbook" mannerisms. I would NOT recommend him to anyone seeking self improvement. You could literally grab a book and read it it would be the same.

This was most likely the worst experience working a “professional” to see if I could be a patient. While understand not everyone is a match, I could tell within five minutes he was not interested in taking me as a patient, he had me go through everything that brought me there regardless. I left feeling embarrassed, ashamed, and angry. I don’t like to share with people and I took a chance. At the end he said I was not a good fit and did not have any kind of referral for me. I asked to leave and he made sure he had a copy of my insurance card to bill for a waste of time. All of things I was going there to be seen for was listed on his website and in the literature that I was provided. I also recall he said on the phone when I called to set up the initial appointment, he said I am not sure I am right, I am going on vacation. As I left I thanked for another feeling of rejection and he had no comment. Do not waste your time with him because he just was the horrible.
