I saw Emily while she was with East Side DBT NYC and would not recommend her. As it turns out, I am bipolar II with social anxiety, but was suspected to have borderline personality disorder by a previous clinician (the conditions are often mistaken for one another). Emily aggressively shoe horned me into the diagnosis of borderline personality disorder despite its poor fit and via some impressively contorted logic tried to convince me that my straight forward, text book social anxiety (which has subsequently responded amazingly to CBT) was actually a personality disorder. The worst part of this is that the hypomanic phases of my bipolar disorder are what were effectively ruining my life, and Emily was content to shrug her shoulders and say "we might never know what's going on there! Sorry can't address that!" and simply force a ton of DBT skills on me despite them doing absolutely nothing, as I needed medication for bipolar and CBT for anxiety, both of which have subsequently helped.
