Dehumanizing
Darla was the 2nd worst therapist I’ve had out of 9. We worked on EMDR therapy that was the most devaluing and dehumanizing experience I’ve ever had. I have severe PTSD from numerous sources, including an event which I witnessed the death of a woman. Darla’s solution was to have me imagine it never happened, or that some fantastical elements replaced what really happened. The most cutting exchange we had that made me fire her was when I told her that I couldn’t forgive myself for my part in causing someone’s death and would feel guilty pretending it never happened. and she told me I “wasn’t trying hard enough” and that my “attitude is the reason for my PTSD and night terrors”. I quit her after three sessions.
