not willing to work with you
I was with dr. sortisio for quite a while, and at first she was helpful because i was able to talk to her, but once we got past surface-level issues, she was unwilling to work with me on harder topics. Her services are EXPENSIVE and so i wanted to make the most of my time and do real work, but every time I asked a question that challenged preconcieved notions of me, rather than work with me to a) explain and go through her observations or b) alter her notions given new information, she would just abruptly change the topic to something i'd established I didn't care about and was already going well. Eventually I brought up that I might have a few different specific disorders and asked what steps I could take to look into it. she told me I didn't have it without doing any kind of specific assessment with me, and when I called her out on that, she changed the topic. a few years later I was officially diagnosed with all of them.

If I could leave a zero star review, I would do that. Dr. Sortisio is not a good therapist. Her manner is condescending and insincere. She displayed my confidential information to others. She lost information. She was unavailable and not reliable. She did not understand the complexity of my situation. She only made things more complicated and dysfunctional. I didn't feel like I could trust her. Her office did not feel like a safe and healing place.

Ms. Sortisio lacks insight and objectivity. She clearly has personal bias and/or allows one party to gain influence over her judgement rather than relying on the facts. She in no way should be allowed to comment on custody battles. It appears this is a trend for Ms. Sortisio in 2020. Beware! This case also deals with infidelity and lies. Unfortunately, honesty, integrity, a conscience, refraining from lying about and badmouthing the opposing person is seen by Ms. Sortisio as admission of guilt and being unfit to parent. In this case she interviewed party A first and allowed that narrative to dictate how she investigated and interpreted the narrative of party B. Ms. Sortisio's bias was obvious in her interviews of party B, her heinous description of party B, and clear narrative provided by party A was given in direct quotes from party B in her report. Ms. Sortisio is unqualified and unfit to speak in custody hearings due to her complete willful incompetence by allowing bias to sway her.

Cynthia Sortisio was a custody evaluator for my divorce case. My ex moved us to NC so the affair could continue with a co-worker. Since I wanted to relocate back to family, my ex started making up accusations and lies. If I would have known she was the judge and jury, I would have pursued the evaluation as I was in court. Apparently, being a better parent and trying not to crucify the other parent, does not mean a thing to her. Especially when it comes to the children. My advice is to please stay from her, especially when you are already dealing with a narcissist. She only adds fuel to the fire. If I could give zero stars I would.

Dr Sortisio is among the most accredited co-parent therapists and Parent Coordinator providers in Durham/Chapel Hill. I found Dr Sortisio to be very helpful during the few co-parent therapy sessions she provided me.

Dr. Sortisio has helped me fight depression for years. She has helped me tremendously with various personal, family and work related difficulties and crises. I have experienced her as kind, understanding, responsive to appointment needs, patient and proactive. The fact that I am still alive, I attribute a great deal to her care of at that most difficult time in my life. I have felt appropriately challenged and very supported through my most difficult times. I had seen a couple other therapist before her but she has been the right fit for me. I am pleased to leave a review and would recommend her in a second, and I have.

When you are a parenting coordinator, you are dealing with people that can't get along over basic things. This is why she's likely seen as stern or austere. She also has the gift of seeing through people's pettiness. As PC, she's probably pretty business oriented. As a therapist, she's amazing.

Dr. Sortisio is fantastic. She treated my daughter for years, through depression, anxiety, panic attacks, self-harm, med changes and hospitalizations. My daughter adored her and actually trusted her. She has graduated and is alive because of this wonderful woman. Five other therapists terminated when my daughter became difficult, but she stuck with us. I am a medical professional myself, and I would recommend her wholeheartedly to any family seeking a counselor for their child.

Agree completely with the other negative reviews. She has a terrible disposition and is extremely rude and demeaning. Seems very defensive and frustrated when asked simple questions. Extremely authoritarian towards children. Does not listen to the needs of the child. Search and interview other therapists you will definitely be able to find a better one.

Instead of providing guidance and helping with conflict resolution, Dr. Sortisio created more conflict and turned a difficult situation into an impossible one. She should be avoided as a therapist and as a coordinator.
