Courtney Ohlmann, MA

Courtney was my therapist in 2021 and caused me more trauma from her incompetence than what I already had when I first started with her. She abruptly and unprofessionally discontinued our sessions because she was frustrated that “nothing she suggested was working with me” and because I didn’t do the homework she assigned every week. Mind you I have ADHD and at the time was undiagnosed and struggled with executive dysfunction, depression and anxiety. She never apologized for her actions and for adding more to my abandonment fear. Because of her behavior, I now fear being open and honest with therapists or counselors because they I don’t want to frustrate them enough that they abruptly cancel our sessions and I have to then do the hard work of finding another therapist. Mental health professionals were once seen as safe spaces for me, but no longer now.

She exacerbated my abandonment issues that I was looking to work on with her when I started. Before working with her, I trusted therapists and counselors to be a safe space for me to be vulnerable and less than perfect. But after working with her, I struggled to be open and honest with therapists because I’m afraid that if I frustrate them too much they will stop wanting to work with me and I’ll have to start all over again to find another therapist.
