Brigitta Brandt, MA

I started working with Brigitta to process a specific trauma. Her demeanor was friendly and calm when we talked about surface-level topics, but when I brought up my traumatic experience she seemed defensive, tried to point out flaws in my story, and argued that I should consider the perspective of the person who mistreated me. She discouraged me from joining a support group about it, suggesting that it would be a negative influence. In the weeks after I brought up this topic, she started believing my words had negative intent, even when I explained otherwise. I ended up walking on eggshells to avoid having my words twisted into something I didn’t mean, but that didn’t help. I decided to address it with her because she initially said she was open to feedback. This also was not effective, as she seemed annoyed and responded by suggesting I have a stigmatizing disorder that I don’t have, which felt retaliatory. I wanted to be heard, but felt misunderstood instead.
